thanks in Advance :drink: Last longer and get more HP to the prop. |
I have had them two weeks now, really not that hard getting used to, Mercury power and the way they idle makes that happen. Only big disadvantage I have seen is trying to tie up in a congested area with a wind.

I had them in one of my Sutphens.
Good batteries + Good starters = No problem. Just takes a little practice. |

You can probably buy Earls whole shop for what they want for those shiftable crashboxes. Just buy some stock in Huber and keep ordering them.
I think you are on the right track all ready. |

You want one with a tail or one with a driveline? The driveline one aint sheap, but if you want a regular one, I can probably arrange something. The only difference is the housing. Guts are the same.

Coan Engineering makes a 2 speed transmission that is rated for up to 2000 Horsepower. There number is 765-456-3957 they are in Kokomo IN. We have tested them in my 32 Skater and they are working good.

ZERO DRAG TRANSMISSION
Since 1990, SCS has produced a Crashbox that has stood up to the Blown Motors when the "Daytona Style" could not. In 1998, the unit was modified by Mike Sage, owner of SCS, to stop the internal gearing from turning in the Forward Position. Net gain was about 4 MPH on virtually every catamaran when they replaced the Standard SCS Crashbox or the Daytona. In the fall of 1999, Mercury Racing dropped the Daytona crashbox and now buys SCS Zero's for all their crashbox needs! It is available with 1480/1510 Large Flange or 1350/1410 Small Flange Outputs. Custom Inputs available for Turbine applications with brake rotor hubs. SCS also offers a clutched Zero Crashbox to replace 72c when it becomes the weak link! |

Yes, Coan's are the one's that Keith helped with. They just did an article in the Poker Runs magazine last month. If you give Keith a call he could tell you more about the transmission. Thanks

Jim and Tyson are doing the fine tuning on the 2 speed trannies in Freedom. I was in Freedom on Memorial Day weekend and they work great. Jim is very excited about them. They are just awesome around the docks with the lower gear. He is able to place that big Skater exactly where he wants too and if Jim can't break them, I do not think anyone will be able to. Talk to Jim about them and he can tell you exactly where they stand on them. I have been in Rare Breed's new ride with the crash boxes the last two weekends. They have not been a major problem, but you always have to plan ahead with them because it just takes longer to react when you have too.

Yes we built some bad AZZ transmissions. SPEED SHIFT TRANSMISSIONS. I test what we build with a 46 skater with 1300 hp per side. Been there done that with Bam and SCS. I boat a lot and saw a need for Bad azz transmissions. I will have them in my boat FREEDOM US1 in jax and will race with them to BIMINI and back next weekend.

Yo Big Daddy. Did ya ever talk to Tyson on the overdrive deal? Turbines and TwoSpeeds thats what I,m talking about:drink: |
I always thought it would be a great idea to run two speed transmissions on any boat.
I looked at the transmissions on the Coan website and realized that they might be high performance powerglide transmissions adapted to fit marine applications. Coan Marine Trans http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-2...A-281110_1.jpg Coan Extreme HP Powerglide http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-1...A-11170_01.jpg http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-1...A-11170_02.jpg http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-1...A-11170_03.jpg http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-1...A-11170_04.jpg http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-1...A-11170_05.jpg Stock Powerglide Case http://www.coanracing.com/Imgs/COA-1...A-12837A_2.jpg If that is the basis of their two speed transmissions, Coan Engineering has hit on an excellent solution. Drag racers have been using Powerglides for 50 years and virtually bulletproof components have been developed. There have been custom shiftable transmissions out there, but nothing with the track record of the Powerglide. I am sure they are not cheap, but by adapting the high horsepower powerglide for marine applications, they could put shiftable transmissions into the hands of a lot more performance boaters. |
