suggestions for a smaller 20-26ft, single inboard, fast hull.
I'm looking at getting something a little bigger then i've had before. I don't really want twin engines. I would want something to run into the 70+ mph range. I've had some smaller 24degree deadrise donzi style boats that would run 65gps with single smallblock. I boat in and around Jacksonville, FL and the river up here can get a little rougher than my hydrostream vking can handle, i've had it to 96gps breaking in my new 280 outboard. I know i can't expect crazy speeds, just something i can still trailer and launch. I really liked my Four Winns donzi style boat, it could eat up the river chop and sounded good. I just don't realy like the donzi's, you are sitting up too high in them. I have been looking at the velocity 22, cigarette 20-21's, i know there are other boats similiar out there. If it was an older hull with newer engine that would be great. I like the older classic hulls. I don't want a project, but don't mind swapping in a motor or such. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, damon

how about a 22 Donzi Criterion?

I had a Strkyer 21 Stealth. Very fast for a 21 with stock 502. They are very cool looking too. If you can find one.
|
stryker
how fast gps with the 502? i'm not familiar with them.

Call Rich Sutphen about this boat
http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/boa/1196793410.html Low hours, does 73 MPH and its a great deal |

banana boat
looks nice, i just don't want to spend the coin on a new, or newer boat. I don't think i'm going to find anything as fast as i want with a single inboard....I'm used to running near 100mph in 18-20ft boats. I do like the fact that the boats in the 20-24ft range with deep v can handle any type of water i would encounter in the st johns river, just dont think i'd be very excited with doing only 70-80 in that size boat. Was hoping i cold find something a little faster. I still really like some of the classic 20-21 cigarettes, the 22 velocitys, some of the smaller fountains. I won't be going offshore with them. Saw a couple really nice restored 20 cig's that really look good, just the 60mph speed isn't going to do it.

Want to do 80 +.....then try this www.sutphenboats.com
Get a hold of Morgan. he has a bare hull with a basic paint job he can trick out and get you in that 80 mph area.....it should cost less than a restored 20 Cig |

Sit up to high in a Donzi? Never heard that one before. |
What is your budget? I have a friend here in VA with a Baja 252 (with a short windshield) & a ProCharged 502. It's quite the sleeper.
|
donzi and budget
all the smaller donzi's 16,18,22. i'm 6'2" and the side gunnels are just above my waist sitting in them, and no windshield to deflect any of the wind...don't like eating bugs, i know the larger ones are better. as per budget, 35k would be most i'm willing to spend right now. I did look at some of the stryker 21's....pretty fast with the 502. probably handle the river here just fine. Definately wouldn't see one around. I could pick one of them up cheap, would give me plenty money to play/change drive engine etc...

How about a 24 Superboat? High 70's with a 300x or BBC.
500HP will get you into the 80's. |

90s in any smaller true deepV is gonna be a handful.
A 24 pantera, w/ sitdown buckets would be a nice ride. You'd need 700+hp to do the speeds you want. |

How about a completely restored 1982 Cigarette Squadron XII 27' with a 650 hp 502 sc motor that will get you over 80 mph?
|
Ihave a 21 apache scout here in jax. It does great for everything around here.
|
powerplay
that boat looks nice, so does the cigarette. I did some measuring, and i will have to stay with something in the 20-22ft range due to my storage place. I think something like that will do what i want here in the river. I do like the apache's, nice, cool oldschool boat. The 20 cigarettes look really sweet.

I have a Donzi 22ZX with a Procharger 350 Mag MPI that runs 81 on GPS. I do a lot of my boating on the St. Johns in Cental Florida, and have been very happy with the boat.

donzi
I've always liked the donzi 22zx. I just about bought one with a 502 in it. They are nice, modern, newer. What speeds did you get prior to the blower? What's the deadrise?
|
How about a 202 222 stinger. I have one that runs about 80 with a injected small block chevy. It is good to get you here to there(only 3 seater) They can be had fairly cheap...

Donzi Minx. 20 feet... taller than a 22 by a good amount, the windshield works. cupholders, etc. search for some pictures.
|
I always liked those 222 stingers, don't see them every day.

Scyclone01, I can't direct you to a boat, but can give you some input from my experience. I have a 22 Velocity with a 406 small block, have seen mid 80's numerous times and it has a little more stick left. I use it on the Chesapeake bay and it can handle more water than people give it credit for. It is a blast to run. Being a pad bottom boat, it is a driver's boat.
Good Luck with your search!! |
How about a seahawk?
I may be selling my 26' seahawk. It is a 1996 and was totaly redone in 2004.The boat is setup good big k-planes ,dual ram latham steering.I hope to have the new motor in next week. 454 7.5 to 1 with a 174 b&m blower.Check out the vid 1:15 and 2:53 white with blue graphics(boat had a pump gas 496ci in the vid and ran 79mph,should run mid to high 80's with the new motor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaYc5_jn7co

I like this 21cig. Board member Mikeb4 used to own it.
Definitely different. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/6920 Here's pics of when mike owned it. He sold it about 1 1/2yr ago. |
boats
the donzi minx i know has more cockpit depth etc, i do like them and have been looking. the cigarette looks really cool, i just know they are a little heavy and slower. The velocity would probably be the fastest being a pad bottom....and considering i have a hydrostream vking padv 650lb hull that i have driven on the pad up close to 100gps...id say the velocity should be a little easier to drive...I have seen some velocity's with the 300x outboards, they look nice....I've seen a couple nicely restored cigarette's that really look good. Seems like everybody has a donzi, or at least you see more of them than the other boats...like the cig
|
stinger
that's a pretty cool boat, never seen one. i like the center steer...room for girls on both sides..ha, keep it nice and balanced
|
Heavier will ride better, but need more HP = more $.

Here`s ya boy! Cheap ,fast, and good looking!
atlanta.oodle.com/vehicle/boat/?o=75 Dont know why the link wont work. Copy and paste it then search "Stryker" |
for your usage a 24 or so ft cat would give you the speed your looking for and still ride better than what you currently have.

I agree and was thinking the same thing. I owned a 22' Talon, a centerpod tunnel, and it handled the rough very well for a 22'. One of those single sterndrive 26' RPM boats would be sweet, but they are too new to find low priced used ones... |
talon and stryker
yeah, i do like the 22 talon, much nicer than the 21 talon....larger sponsons and cokpit depth.....friend of mine that i bought my vking from is rigging one of the original 22 talons with twin 280's....i did see that stryker in atlanta...not bad for the price....

What kind of Donzi did you own?
I have both a 18 and 26. They are way different animals. The 18 you ride on and the 26 you ride in. There is a big difference in the types of boats mentioned here. We have gone from classic looks to cats. There is also a pretty big difference between a 22 and a 26. My 26 runs in the mid 90's and can handle some pretty good water for a 26 foot hull. I would not exactly describe it as tall though. It takes a good bit of power to get you there but you said you were looking for a "classic" looking hull. The 22ZX would be a good smaller option but again it is not a "classic" hull. |
why not something from tuffmarine?
