Looking for "SeaDoo for Dad" - 108' Sunseeker

This boat tore through the no-wake zone on the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal around 11:00 AM on Sunday, 7/5/09, causing damage to boats, docks and people. When pursued by some of the victims, he refused to stop. The boat is registered in Georgetown, Cayman Islands. The boat had spent the night of the Fourth in Baltimore, tied up next to the National Aquarium. It's last transmitted location was in the marina by the former WTC site in New York City as of 7:00 AM Monday morning, 7/6/09.

See http://www.marinetraffic.com/AIS/dat...MMSI=954990382 for more information.

If someone can determine the owner of this vessel, there is a pretty long line of people waiting to speak with him.

Just asking, but if some guys followed him couldn't you all called Local cops, marine patrol, coasties??? In VA Beach they would have gone ape chit to chase a boat and screw with them. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to track him down, you have the name on the boat, call his embassy?

amann 07-07-2009 09:03 AM

Well the damage sucks but WOW what a freaking nice boat!!

dicdik 07-07-2009 09:05 AM

This doesn't help but I saw him cruising down the Delaware on Sunday around 2pm by the Ship John Light House. I was surprised how fast he was motoring.

I don't know if this will help but he does not seem to be at North Cove Marina.
Check the webcam he might be in slip S5,6,or7

If it's him in NY there is no shortage of lawyers there to get there hands around his collar. Injunction time!

Wow, beautiful boat.

Nothing like sending 5' rollers into the basin.

What an idiot.

PJDiesel 07-07-2009 09:43 AM

You know, now that I think of it, there aren't really any decent signs out there. Used to be a big one at the end of Schaefers, guess that fell into the water with the other half of the dock.....?

Coming in for Canal day, I had a group of guys hooting and yelling at me to slow down, way back before Capt. Dan's. ???

Once they realized I wasn't slowing until before Schaefers dock, they got up to about 15 MPH themselves, pushing a huge wake.

I lived on the Canal growing up, traveled that way maybe THOUSANDS of times over the years. We have never slowed until just before the docks.

Hope this guy has to pay, and learns to slow it down through there.

baja27 07-07-2009 11:56 AM

They really need better no wake signs. Something larger than a 8.5* 11 sign

I was at the Chesapeake Inn that morning after staying the night. It was probably thee scariest thing I've ever dealt with. I was between a 45 Excalibur and a 43 Black Thunder when the waves hit. At the end of the dock was a 57 Carver and it was pitching so violently I thought the people in the first slips were going to get killed. The wife of the owner of the carver was taking a shower and was thrown around inside the head! Could you imagine not knowing this was coming? My wife was thrown to the dock twice and has the cuts and bruises to prove it. A friend and I jumped in his boat (didn't have to untie the stern line it BROKE) and ran up the canal. We caught up to him about 1 mile up the canal and puled alongside. My friend was on the phone w/ the CG while I kept alongside. We took pictures and stayed with him for at least 15 minutes then all the women that were on the back went inside and the owner (we guess) came out and waved! We threw our arms up...... and he gave us the finger. The CG never offered any assistance they told us to file a report and they'll see what they can do. Are you Phucking kidding me!! The state police came to the Inn and took down at least 15 damage reports and took many pictures. The officer has contacted me and will keep me updated on any further info.

This azzhat will get whats coming to him. I check his GPS location everyday. And I have time to travel if need be.:angry-smiley-055:

SeaDoo For Dad currently shows its location as 41 28.8252N / -71 19.0956W, which is Casey's Marina at the foot of Pope Street in Newport, RI. Anyone from OuterLimits in the area free to stop by and send him warmest regards?

Chuck You da MAN!!! Thanks for starting this. I was planning on doing it later but I'm stuck in the backyard waxing the boat and truck.:coolcowboy:

animalhouse 07-07-2009 05:01 PM

I will get on that in the morning. My friend is the newport Harbormaster, perhaps he will cough up the owner's name.

Someone should call Sea Doo and nail him on Trademark infringement, unless he has something to do with them.

C_Spray 07-08-2009 08:05 AM

If you read the BoaterEd thread from start to finish, you'll see that Bombardier/SeaDoo is well aware of this. I would expect that this cat will see far more grief from them than law enforcement or insurance types. If he's an employee, it should be really bad for him.

Smarty 07-08-2009 08:26 AM

Chuck and John,

Sorry to hear about this, that is just ridiculous. John, I hope your wife is feeling better.

"Responsible for your wake" - that owner should be charged with the Maritime equivalent of reckless, and have his operator privileges suspended (there was personal injury to others, and that is bullsh*t). This is the law in Maryland (look below).

This from the Maryland DNR (Maryland's Marine Police):http://www.dnr.state.md.us/boating/s...ionvessels.pdf (page 7)

Reckless and Negligent Operation:
Law prohibits negligent or grossly negligent operation of a vessel that endangers lives and/
or property. The U.S. Coast Guard for this offense may impose a civil penalty under federal laws. The operator may be subjected to a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment for up to one year, or both. The Maryland penalty is a fine of up to $500 for the first offense.

Some examples of actions that may constitute negligent or grossly negligent operation
include but are not limited to:
1. Operating in a swimming area.
2. Operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
3. Excessive speed in the vicinity of other boats or in dangerous waters.

Code of Maryland Regulation law pertaining to this type of violation:http://www.dsd.state.md.us/comar/idq_files/search.idq

08.18.01.05. 05 General Operation of Boats.. A person may not operate or give permission to operate any motorboat or any vessel in a:. A. Reckless manner to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person; or. B. Negligent manner to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person.

Hopefully this will help some of the parties that were injured.

glassdave 07-08-2009 08:46 AM

has anyone been over to yachtforums.com with this? Seems to be the place to locate these type of boats and other info.

R Addiction 07-08-2009 09:00 AM

I have my best person on this. I am a bit of a hot head and would definitely not handle it as well. My friend is cool as a cucumber when it comes to handling situations, especially the stressful type. Don't worry Sea Doo for Dad your day is coming.:hitfan:

Good idea - Done.

HTRDLNCN 07-08-2009 10:19 AM

I would also fire off a complaint to the main Coast Guard location,
their lack of involvement could have caused this idiot to hurt or kill someone .. Thats inexcusable for an agency that is supposed to be
taking care of our country.

mojomarine 07-08-2009 12:03 PM

Someone could call Sunseeker Florida. They would be the servicing dealer for any Sunseeker currently in the US.

What a f*** stick.Let me know John and I am there for a road trip.Tell Leslie I hope she is feeling better and I will see you this weekend hopefully out at Lloyds.

Ms PatriYacht 07-08-2009 12:44 PM

John sorry to hear of this happening. I can't belive he is still out there and no one has caught up with him. I doubt there are very many 108' Sunseekers out there, but I also doubt that without some type of warrant Sunseeker will give up the owners name. I saw C-Sprays post on the Yacht forum, the first poster seemed to think he has turned his tracking device off, so I bet he knows he is being hunted. Shouldn't the police or USCG from Delaware be in contact with the authorities in RI. I would think the best tactic would be to get all of us and especially those involved bombarding the DE and RI Coast guard and police offices with phone calls and emails demanding they do something. If you can post the contact info on this site I promise to call or email.

tomtbone1993 07-08-2009 12:49 PM

has anyone confirmed if their is any relation to SeaDoo?

bluellama 07-08-2009 12:51 PM

Chuck, I just read your post on YachtForum. Are there more pictures online, other than the ones on OSO, BoatersEd and here?
None of those pictures show a Canadian Flag.

BAJA WILL 07-08-2009 02:31 PM

You know the more I think about this the more pissed I get. If it had been one of us, ripping through at 100mph, the efing coatsies would have sent a BLACK HAWK with a 50cal to come get us. "file a report" is not good enough, you guys need to get the coasties who took the report and call the local TV station, get a reporter on it, call the coasties station and go up the chain of command until they says OK we will find this SOB, TELL THEM YOUR NEXT CALL IS your congressman, and don't bluff, call the Congressman, tell them your property was damaged and people hurt by a efing super yacht with no respect for US law. Call CNN see if they will pick up the story. File a report with the ASSOCIATED PRESS, If you all really want this guy GO AFTER HIM, if you wait until he returns to Cayman, you can forget the whole mess.:angry-smiley-038:

C_Spray 07-08-2009 02:41 PM

Without going into detail:
  1. The boat was indeed flying the CAYMAN flag and not the Canadian Flag.
  2. This reduces the likelihood that anyone from Bombardier/SeaDoo (a Canadian company) has anything to do with this; they are pissed that the guy is using their name and logo.
  3. The yacht appears to be moored at Casey's Marina in Newport, Rhode Island at the moment. This is the last location provided by its onboard MMSI tracking device (public domain): http://www.marinetraffic.com/AIS/shi...MMSI=954990382 (Click on "Itineraries History".)
  4. The yacht appears to be based out of Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale.

LZH 07-08-2009 04:07 PM

If my boat had been damaged I would have been after this idiot, waited for him to stop....sticks buried drives out and ripped a turn right off his stern flooding his decks with spray. Then another pass firing a flare into his living room.

Amazing the CG did nothing about it...

jln 07-08-2009 04:55 PM

the canal needs to do something about no wake barrels ,the weekend of canal day i watched a few 40- 50 ft boats come speeding under the bridge only to be slowed down by the c c aux.i have had my boat bashed into the dock there before but nothing compared to the wave that "sea doo for dad" must have been putting out , very scary . i wish all involved the best in catching this idiot.

So if people seem to know where the boat is located why is nothing being done. Have any of the authorities approached them, does anyone plan to?????? I feel like Baja Will, I am pizsed and it did not even happen to me. If it did happen to me, I would be like a dog on a bone and myself and my friends would be all over this until someone did something.

Smarty 07-08-2009 05:27 PM

File the complaint, call Maryland DNR and the U.S Coast Guard's (Fifth District US Coast Guard Portsmouth, VA) District Five Command Center (serving Southern NJ, Eastern PA, MD, VA, NC) 757-398-6390.

Maryland Natural Resources Police
Tawes State Office Building E3, 580 Taylor Avenue,Annapolis, MD 21401-2397
Phone: (410)-260-8888

Tell them you want to file a complaint for Reckless Operation. Explain the physical injury, and property damage.

I feel bad for those that got injured, I know John (R'Addiction) and and his wife. I have contacted the Rhode Island DEM to see if they can investigate, get statements, and serve the complaint if the US Coast Guard hasn't already done so. I am waiting on a call to see what the best procedure to get this bastard served, and put on notice. Us District Court, or Maryland State Court. I spoke with a US Coast in house attorney to see what can be done, and how best to get it done. I am waiting on a return call from a Sergeant in Rhode Island to see where the investigation is and how to serve this guy.

Once you mess with, or injure an OSO brother or sister, watch out. The OSO Members do stick together when sh*t like this happens. I hope I can help.

Stephen

Wouldn't surprise me really, people register large vessels in the Bahamas to avoid taxes in their own country.

Hard to say really.

Smarty 07-08-2009 08:47 PM

A Sergeant at Rhode Island DEM, just retuned my call and told me he is contacting the Maryland State Police to determine who the complaintants are and what happened; and he said he will be visiting Casey's Marina (thank you Chuck and Ms. Patri Yacht for that information) in Newport to to further help remedy this situation with the Sea Doo For Dad vessel operator.
