Already seen that. They are too heavy for me.
I think the 6cyl Buck motor at 1500-1600lbs rated for 650hp is going to be a great package IF he can get venture capital to put it on the market. He's working on an 800hp race motor too. |

Well my friend...diesels are heavy. It's a compression engine, it has to be. Even the Duramax weighs 1400+lbs.

Here we go again!
Here we go again.. Some ole boy is up on that Duramax SoapBox :gfight: Nevermind there is always some pics of someone's built up Duramax but nobody has seen one running in a boat:eek: When it comes to diesel the required stroke to bore ratio dictates an inline engine to narrow it down the venerable inline six. Long stroke heavy piston the harmonics will just tear a V-8 apart. That is why you can go down to your local Cummins dealer and buy a 480hp 5.9L marine engine. Or your Local Yanmar dealer and do the same thing. Every so often someone puts some hell a built up D-Max on display at a boat show and says they gonna start production and then disappears. What happens is they get to the point of doing destructive dyno testing and they realize the engine won't hold together at a marketable horsepower level. At that point they fade into the darkness never to be heard again. If the Duramax was really doable it would be on the market already.:drink:

IMCO is working on a 500hp Duramax project with PPE out of California. The first platform was a 21' Nordic. Teague got 75mph out of it in a Powerboat mag test. I would like to see a 30'+ V bottom with twins next.

The thing that got me more was the gas mileage, granted it is a single engine 21 footer but still pretty good numbers. What would a 525 or closer in performance a 496 HO in the same boat get, anybody know? From powerboats test http://www.powerboatmag.com/two-for-one.html "On the governor with the engine turning 3,500 rpm, the 21-footer topped 77 mph on GPS." "This engine here can run hundreds of hours. The whole idea is if a person can make it all function and do it without a lot of headache and a lot of extra expense, than it should be very usable especially with fuel economy. We’ve been getting 7 to 8 miles per gallon in this boat.” |
