New Outerlimits 40 GTX

5 Attachment(s)
Introducing the new 40 GTX from Outerlimits Powerboats. With Styling cues from the 39 GTX mated to the Race Proved SV 40 Bottom, this Ilmor 650 powered boat is capable of running 115 mph in comfort. This boat features the exciting new Ilmor 650's mated to the New Indy Drive System.

lavey jr 07-22-2009 08:52 PM

Very nice.
How do the new drives handle and perform? Can you compare them to NXT's?
Any noticable differences between the 625 and 650?

animalhouse 07-22-2009 08:55 PM

The package is new to us, but We are pleased with the results we have seen to date. The 650's are incredible, nothing against the 625's, but the engines have advanced dramaticly. The Mid Range Punch is incredible, the acceleration is great, the weight savings alone is a plus.

Cash Bar 07-22-2009 09:09 PM

Very cool. I am a HUGE Ilmor fan. Glad to see a boat go out with the full package.

Cash Bar 07-22-2009 09:10 PM

AH, is that a customer boat or is it available?

animalhouse 07-22-2009 09:23 PM

This boat is a customers boat, but we can always build more.

stainless 07-22-2009 09:31 PM

Very nice! Looks great!:ernaehrung004:

Pink Propellers 07-22-2009 09:42 PM

Was that Ilmore 650s in an sv40 115 mph is that in the bay up there or on broad common road behind a chevy driven by a blind guy? Just wondering.

animalhouse 07-22-2009 09:57 PM

Pink, first of all our tow vehicles are Fords, and those speed numbers are on the water in the bay. The boat is quick and responsive.

ILMORdude 07-22-2009 10:22 PM

Thx for the pics!

Pink Propellers 07-22-2009 10:28 PM

So to answer my own question since we all understand that a ford cant (toe?) tow itself that fast Mike must have dropped it from that tall bridge going over the bay.

Great speed from the 650s but I've very surprised the 725s weren't used...

animalhouse 07-22-2009 10:46 PM

Pink, you figured it out. Thanks for setting things straight

animalhouse 07-22-2009 10:50 PM

The 650's were used because that was all we needed to go as fast as the customer requested. It really is a nice package.

DONZI 07-23-2009 05:40 AM

38flatdeck 07-23-2009 08:54 AM

Yes, there is a cabin and head as the 39 GTX.

ktron 07-23-2009 09:15 AM

Do you have any more pics of the dash? Are the seats front 2 seats on shocks? Those new trannies from Ilmor must shift like Butta!

Mint poker run package!!!

Very nice piece! Everyone knows what an Ilmor fan I am & I so have the itch for a pair 725 / Indy packages. Currently a Cat guy but if I ever decide to defect OL will certainly be getting a look.

Hopefully your customer will continue to provide the rest of us w/ some Gen4 Indy Drive feedback. I know I'd bolt a set on in a heartbeat w/ confidence if they were available. Ilmor does their homework & their products are first class as are their people!

Jassman 07-23-2009 03:47 PM

nice looking boat..and Im glad Ilmor is back in the picture...Im curious on the motor and drive package and how well it will fair out..vs the difference on the nxt from Merc..bullet looks different as well as thicker towards the upper section of the skeg.

Uncle Dave 07-23-2009 04:01 PM

First Indies Ive seen on a transom.

No more room for anyone to say Ilmor isn't delivering.

Nice rig.

From what I hear, the 725/Indy package is about the same price as the 700SCI/NXT. I like the Ilmors better because they will last longer than the blower Merc. Not only that but Ilmor rates the Indy to 1000hp so there may be a super Viper in the works they're gonna zap us with. :food-smiley-007:

Just hope Fiat doesn't stop making the base motors.:lolhit:

They wouldn't DARE. Ilmor would come down on them like a ton of tires.

No worries kids. We're good for awhile. If something happens, RP will probably just buy the engine line! Stayed tuned as many different builders are installing the new packages right now. Elim. is gonna have a screamer FYI

Sure would be interesting to see what that Skater would do with the new package vs. the current set-up.

It's my understanding that the new 725 makes more than 725hp & the Indy drive has a real transmission, dry sump tranny at that so the hp loss to the prop is far less than a #6. I don't know what kind of power an NXT robs but I'm almost positive it has a cone clutch tranny which isn't anywhere near as strong as the tranny in front of a #6 or Indy drive.

Indy= 4HP parasitic loss
#6= 38HP parasitic loss

http://www.powerboatmag.com/ilmor-fl...ew-muscle.html

another article says it takes 24HP to turn vs double that for NXT:

MM,

Nice find, much better than my "almost positive" remarks!

Viper is no longer for sale. The new Chrysler has decided to keep it and make it a profitable division of their company.

Really?

Love to hear how you came to that conclusion.

Uncle Dave

Boatlesss 07-27-2009 10:31 AM

Well, the obvious take from that is that the drive broke. shhhhhhh.

That is absolutely incorrect. The first set of drives that were shipped to us did have a slight issue. The engineers from Ilmor immediately found the problem, switched vendors, and rectified the situation. Since that point the drives have performed flawlessly. We put some time on the boat this past week, and the customer put some time on the boat this weekend, and all is well. The issue that we had with the first set of drives was related to a nut being manufactured out of tolorance. Ilmor immediately switched vendors and replaced the nut in question. There was no drive failure that was reletive to durability and or design. Bear in mind that this was the first set of Drives to be sold to the public. Compared to some of the "Growing Pains" other manufacturers have experienced, this was by far a minor issue. The impressive part was the level of attention that the problem recieved, and the manner in which it was dealt with.

Uncle Dave 07-27-2009 11:37 AM

Thank Animal- noted.

Seems relatively minor compared to skeg design issues causing handling problems on early NXT's.
