If money were no object.
If money were no object. Would you buy a boat with turbine engines.
I dont know much about them. I would want some kind of drive that has reverse and of course can take the power. Are they pretty much vibration free? Not like I could ever afford one but standing next to them when they spool up those turbines, oh man! What are the pros and cons to owning one? Just wondering. Jerry. |
55 MTI canopy 10 seater, heck maybe 12 seater since money is no object :)
|
Money no object 55MTI five person full canopy Turbine Marine 2000hp Lycoming T53-703 turbines steerable Arneson drives or BPM drives w/rudder. Turbine Marine's transmissions have reverse.
Downsides maybe jet engine noise but headsets fix that. I can't think of any other negative. Turbine Marine has successfully modified all of the turbine systems for Marine use including water-jacketed exhaust which greatly reduces heat(I've seen videos of Arruda putting his hand right in the exhaust stream). The only other downside is price. Turbines are not cheap up front, but they require very little maintenance and can run 3000 hours before a rebuild. Think about a 1400-1500hp piston motor and how soon they need rebuilding at $25,000-$30,000 per. |
What fuel do they run on and can you get it on the water?
|
The new Mystic 48 for me, with LARGE N/A Motors, say 622 ci! with BPM drives, and A/C or course!:drink:

I always thought turbines ran on pretty much any fuel?
diesel,kerosene,etc.. As for the smell I guess only the guy behind you has to worry about that,LOL.. :) |
Jerrys 46 skater turbine boat KNOT RIGHT, he has the 1st turbine with shiftable trans brake back in 2000. so the guys who built MY WAY are the ones to speak to. also I would have a OL GTX V with Dean Gellner power and a just race boat only sutphen or joker. and a sportfish 55 ocean or buddy davis. that would keep me happy.

Jerry. They put on a good show, but do nothing for me past that. |

If I were going to have a "fast" boat and money were no object, there is nothing that sounds better than nasty big cube motors at high RPM. I would have a spare set to keep on rotation.
The only other thing I could see needing 2000 hp in would be a big Magnum etc. and would prefer monster diesel's. |
turbines all the way. just for the freak value. if money were no object you could do boat with the turbines and one boat with big high HP v8s. best compromise.
|
probably speaking out of turn here, but anyone ever heard of the Wally Boat ? Seems to be resaonably priced for what your get.... and money not being an issue :eekdrop: http://www.powerandmotoryacht.com/me...wer/index.aspx

What a great question!
Turbine Marines work is so outstanding that I would love to have a new cat rigged by them. Maybe give that new 48 MTI a shot, without a canopy. A definite "dream boat" $$$$$$$ |
Without a doubt, 48 MTI full race set up with T-55's and BPM's.....bring on the Mystic's!!

GOLD RUSH (50ft Nor-tech cat), I would not change a thing, I love every aspect of that boat.

That's the ticket. Oh yeah, for the go fast, 41 Super Leggera w/1800HP Twin Turbo engines |
50' Hustler w/twins
I guess I better play loto tonight :D |
Kudos to Palmer Johnson for their futuristic designs, but even the 120 only makes about 25-28 knots@WOT. This yacht is the second fastest 120'+ yacht in the world at 60 knots;
