The true cost of my boat

First there was the little red convertible. Last weekend, my wife decided she didn't want eggs for Easter - she wanted carrots. So now theres a carrot hanging from each ear. So my question to the more experienced, how much more is fair? Any help?

Ron P 04-03-2002 11:56 AM

Seems unfair doesn't it. 5K for boat parts will cost you 3K in diamonds. My wife has the same thought process. It must be a flaw in the female gene.

skatermike24 04-03-2002 12:02 PM

Dude, your screwed!!! Face it:D

liquid asset 04-03-2002 12:02 PM

5,000 in boat parts = 5,000 in what ever she wants  :(

Iggy 04-03-2002 12:03 PM

A bribe is a bribe.
What ever it takes to make them happy.

Uncle Toys 04-03-2002 12:07 PM

RonP - $3k? My wifes friend taught her all about the 4 Cs, I wish it only cost $3k :o :o :o

Shane 04-03-2002 12:12 PM

I don't get it!

If We buy these parts we do so that when they go out in the boat they will be seen in nothing but the highest quality equipment. We certainly don't want them to be seen in outdated non-color coordinated gauges and parts do we? Why is it ALWAYS about them? When do WE get what WE want?

Ron P 04-03-2002 12:19 PM

I'll try to get my wife to resond to this thread so that we can have some insight into the wacky world of the female mind.

OK, so what are the 4Cs????

Jeff 04-03-2002 12:24 PM

ha ha, that is exactly why I prefer renting.;)

Ron P 04-03-2002 12:28 PM

Hey Jeff, What is the good word? What class are you racing this year and with who?

CigDaze 04-03-2002 12:28 PM

I didn't know you could rent women near us?...
:D

Airpacker 04-03-2002 12:29 PM

Uncle Toys, theres only one rule in marriage when you're the man.Remember this always:
You can be right or you can be happy, choose one.:D

Uncle Toys 04-03-2002 12:31 PM

RonP - I believe they are Cut, Clarity, Color, and Carrot. The drivers of the fifth C, Cost.

Actually you gave me a good idea. I need input from the ladies on the board, not the other knuckle draggers (like myself) ;) :D So Big Cig Chick, River Girl, Miss Amy, Sunseeker, etc - help out your OSO brother. What’s next? Maybe I can head her off at the pass, buy it first on my terms, or avoid the areas that it is sold at. When I agreed to drive out to El Paseo drive in Palm Desert last Saturday, I didn't know there are 11 high-end jewelry stores on that street. Can you spell ambush?

cuda 04-03-2002 12:41 PM

That's why I stick with the lease/option program with my girlfreind :D instead of marriage:o

Luxy60 04-03-2002 01:30 PM

High end means EXTREMELY high mark-up. If you can't escape get yourself a recent Rappaport report to see what you're getting yourself into...:D :D (sort of like an NADA blue book for diamonds)

Shane 04-03-2002 01:39 PM

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS buy FIRST then tell her! Remember..."It is much easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission!":p :p :p :p

MissAmy 04-03-2002 01:40 PM

Uncle Toys ~ Sorry,.....I'm not much into diamonds. I buy the fake ones for 15 dollars up at the mall! LOL! But, I'm sure that Lutz will tell you that my down fall is clothes. Okay, and shoes!

:D :D :D

Advantage_Rob 04-03-2002 01:44 PM

I cant even listen to this!!!

Gary Anderson 04-03-2002 01:49 PM

Uncle Toys
I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!
Before my last girlfriend, I thought a baguette (sp?) was a kind of roll.
Gary

Milord 04-03-2002 02:02 PM

I don't mine any jewellery! She had a tendency to lose things so I made it clear a long time ago that I won't buy any. She buys $15 fakes like Miss Amy! :D :D

Turbojack 04-03-2002 02:06 PM

Does this mean the whipples are out?
Now you can see why she was so nice to you while you were having the boat built.

Philip 04-03-2002 02:35 PM

Hi UT. There are many "Hidden Costs"
You have not calculated the "True cost" of your boat. This is not a constant %. Right now it seems to run in the 100% column. And what i mean by that is, X=$ spent on upgrades. Maint. is not considered in this charge. Maint is non-chargeable. Spend x on the boat, spend x on the wife. BTW when the wife is "only the G/F" the equation is 20 or 30% of X. Well anyway, as time goes on and the wife becomes more powerfull, sort of like getting Whipple charged, the constant goes up to 1.5x X and then to 2x X and so on. In my case my ex-wife, and notice I said ex, decided she was tired of (and I quote) "seeing the back of my team jacket" leaving the house every weekend to go Racing. Well at that point the equation changed, The true cost went up to 10x X, She wound up with 8 x X and her Lawyer took 2 x X. Got to watch those hidden costs
Philip.

jawbreakerkid 04-03-2002 02:39 PM

LOL!!! ahhhhh, my bros. i feel your pain. there is hardly a time that JBG goes out of the house without $15-20K in jewelry and accessories. if it is designer it isn't for JBG. just consider yourselves lucky.........rolex, 5-6c's in diamonds, prada blouses, gucci shoes, louis vuitton purses, chanel sunglasses. i had to get a wallet to match her purse. the damn thing is worth more than the $ in it. if i were ever held at gunpoint, i'd tell 'em to take my money but leave my wallet:(

jbk

Blonde Cig Chick 04-03-2002 02:56 PM

Ah, the 4 C's.........

Uncle Toys,

You were so close on the 4 C's sweetie. Actually, you only missed it by one.........color, cut, clarity, and quality :D

Hey Shane, ya know........we wouldn't want you guys to have to go out in public with anything but the best "hardare" on your arm now.......... or in the boudoir. I mean, it just woudn't be right........don't ya think? LOL! :D

I think the point being made by some of the ladies is just that whats good for the goose is good for the gander. That's all, but I think that often times, that angle is taken advantage of. Only my silly opinion of course.

Jawbeakerkid,

Wow! Where do I sign up? I'd like that program, but have never had it. Maybe its because the boat parts and engines were a bigger turn on for me. Hmmmmm.......you've given me a thought now. ;)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Ok........fire away at me now.

NASTY HABIT 04-03-2002 03:04 PM

lol......kinda got ya by the booboo there..... I think heading her off at the pass may be yoru best bet... just keep the gifts flowing . lol..... mines thing was clothes so she now owns a boutique, she gets her stuff at cost and is making money to buy herself whatever she wants at the same time.... now if i could only get her to start watching porn i'd have it made....

Dean Ferry 04-03-2002 03:24 PM

Nasty,
Just sent you a PM
Thanks,
MD

Ron P 04-03-2002 03:25 PM

My wonderful OSO lurking wife wants to get her two cents in on this thread as you guys finally hit her hot button.

Here goes from Terrie P.

Seems that I’ve apparently let Ron slide a bit in the jewelry purchasing dept. since he didn’t remember what the 4 c’s are. Sweety, guess what we’re doing this weekend???

Most wives know how important their hubby’s boat is to him both in performance and appearance. If a wife is properly accessorized with diamonds while cruising on the boat, the glare from the sun reflecting off of her diamonds draws more attention to his boat. We know how much you appreciate other boaters gawking at your boat, so this is our way of helping out.

ssherman 04-03-2002 03:31 PM

BCC after spending a week with you in meade i dont exactly think you are doing with out:D

So any zip code change yet?????????????

Philip 04-03-2002 03:41 PM

So SSherman,
was BCC in the picture you posted earlier? Come on, you can tell me, I promise to not tell anyone else.

Philip

Uncle Toys 04-03-2002 03:48 PM

"I'm not much into diamonds. I buy the fake ones for 15 dollars!" Miss Amy you ARE the perfect women - well - except for that Lutz guy who is always hanging around.:D :D ;)

Cloths and shoes? Heck, I've been swiming up that stream for decades.

Turbojack - Are the Whipples out? No chance! In fact I am working on the stupid insurance now so I can have the blowers by the Regatta  I'm trying to slow her down, not me.;)

ssherman 04-03-2002 04:09 PM

No BCC is not in there I do however have one that would make grown men sin but that will require bcc's approval.

SummerObsession 04-03-2002 04:17 PM

Philp and jbk:
Youguys are very accuarate in your assumptions about cost!
However, I too used to have a wife (now thankfully EX) that kept score on those kinds of things. At the time I owned and raced a NHRA Pro Stock car, so you can only imagine how much she had to add up on my side! It turns out that everything was some sort of "get even because..." thing. Hmmmm, isn't that interesting.
My point is, I now have someone that appreciates anything and everthing she has or that is given to her, regardless of cost! I know, how can it be, you say? It can happen. It is rare, but it can happen.
Just like the diamonds some women are so fond of, the high quality ones are rare, but worth so much more in the long run.:D
Just my .02 carats worth.

Uncle Toys 04-03-2002 04:31 PM

Philip - That's too funny:D AND, too scary:eek:   You survived 10x on a 32’ Skater? YOU’RE THE MAN!:D Maybe the lesson here is I should be happy I am still sub 1x.....NAH!;)

jawbreakerkid 04-03-2002 04:35 PM

BCC~ okay....more like where do i sign up! (i am still on your list, right?) ;) perhaps i should close the deal by purchasing an OTRLMTS??? ;) :p

SummerObsession~ amen, brutha.....

Uncle Toys 04-03-2002 05:00 PM

Terrie P – That is so funny, you think just like my wife.:p :D

Ron P - Dude, I am so sorry about this weekend. My fault, I owe you one.:o :o :o :D

p.s. Mental note - never let my wife hang with jawbreaker's wife!

Uncle Toys 04-03-2002 05:31 PM

Ladies, can we talk seriously for a minute. I’m asking for help (visualize a pathetic face staring at you). I realize your ultimate loyalty is to the Sorority, but possibly there is a little loyalty left for the Fraternity that has so warmly embraced you here at OSO (no double entendre intended). What’s next? I was thinking it might be redecorating a few rooms. Her friend hired some guy named Alfrado (sp?) and redid their entire downstairs. Do you think that might be next? If so, how do I head it off, or at least, soften the blow.

BCC – I might have gotten one of the four wrong, but not the fifth!

ssherman 04-03-2002 05:36 PM

JBK dont be pullin that buying an outer limit stuff i already ordered one:p

Ron P 04-03-2002 06:18 PM

No problem UT, I just swiped your Amex number out of the central computer banks. I'll make sure she keeps it under 5K.:)

hot water 04-03-2002 06:38 PM

True Story

My buddy decided to put a Whipple on his 271 Formula and surprise the Wife when he was done. It was a suprise to him when she verbally beat him to death for spending all that money without her approval. Then he found out that for safety sake he better put external steering on the boat (more verbal abuse from wife but at least there both safe) Then the drive lets loose less than 6 weeks after whipple install, so on goes the Teague XR drive.

Since then he has purchased for the Wife

1 Rolex Watch
5k in artwork for the house
new dining and living room furniture as well as exersize equipment.

And now whenever they argue, you guessed it, the Formula comes out of the hat

Some upgrade huh

Ron P 04-03-2002 07:39 PM

This is turning into a very bad topic.
