Quick help about oil

Does anyone have any idea on where the dipstick should be to check oil on a chevy 468? Also where the oil fill should be? Thanks

Ok. Well there is a belt driven pulley that has a metal container with a cap tgat has a very short dip stick on it. Would this be the oil? It has a Carmel colored metal smelling liquid in it. Thanks

It wouldn't be drive fluid would it?

and No the large Dayco hoses do not go into that thing as it looks it has a smaller tube that looks to run down under the engine...

OK Thanks! So do you have any idea on where the Dip stick for the oil is?

GoCiggie31 09-12-2009 10:20 PM

on my bbc it is on the other side of the engine(on the opposite side of the p.s.pump) between the water/separator filter for the fuel and the valve cover.

check this site for mercruiser recommendations:

or
personally I use Mobil v-twin but there are other similar products that may work well IE AMSOIL, Joe Gibbs Racing etc...

I got some Quaker State 15W-40 just to get me threw the next couple outings.. When I get it winterized I will have them put in Merc Oil.

I checked both sides... but the Gil headers leave no room between the headers and valve covers on either side... This engine has a Holley Electric fuel pump (its carbuerated) and I followed the lines from the pump to the carb and I didnt see it ...

Any other ideas on a way to find this damn dipstick? Thanks

W.S. get a mirror and look down below the Gill exhaust ck.both sides for a tube runnin out of the oil pans that should end with the dip stick on top. also you usually put the oil into the engine thru the valve covers, but you are just kidding. :circle:

There was a screw cap that came out of the hole... Is this where the oil goes? Just use a funnel and start pouring right? then wait a few minutes and check on dipstick. then keep going till its in correct range correct

BTW I found the dipstick... Under the port side header pointed towards Bow of boat...

Come on guys... I know this is an EASY question... Someone help I am trying to get out to the lake today.

kjm5125 09-13-2009 09:34 AM

If that's the Valve cover, that's where the oil goes.
