skater only measures 'actual' length.... well, they did, until the 50'er that just debuted. ...oh, and there's another new one i can think of that is in a few new posts on OSO that is also measured including the faring. not sure what caused the change in measurement on these? ru going to be in sarasota? joe |

SHUT UP! If you are afraid of a little hoppin, keep your d**k in your pants and stay home on the couch. Get a freakin life! I have run boats all over the Caribbean and a little hop between 60-70 is nothing to be afraid of. Butch up! joe |

truth is I've only rode in one spectre, one time and it was only about 15 minutes.....that is fact!:drink:
However I have lifetime of experience of boating in many other arenas – so it is irritating to watch people stay stupid things about simple things. joe |

Most new cats seem to use a tunnel tab to some extent from say 2002 to present. MTI, Skater, Spectre, DCB, Eliminator, etc. Matter of choice and where you run your boat at. 60-70 seems a different area except for the new designs such as the Spectre 32 and 42.
Other than race boats....which pleasure MTI uses a tunnel tab? |

now it runs w/ out any hop, at any speed range, and is MEGA fast for a 1075 boat. hope that helps, joe I wanted to get some thoughts from Tres when I took his course.. But that is not happening until spring now!! Thanks That makes me really curious now. |
Every true cat I have owned driven or been in will have a slight porpoise in flat water when the hull is making the transition to packing air. Some are very slight and some are very severe. MTI, Skaters and even Motions will hop a little in flat water for a small speed zone. Around 75-85 mph for most cats. It is not a big deal and can make some people nervous if they do not understand why.

HEY BOYS!! I just went to school and learned what a tunnel tab is. You pansies should be ashamed of your selves - wasting so much time on such a ridiculous conversation.
:party-smiley-004: |
Pleasure MTI's do not have trims tabs or tunnel tabs. Every cat will have a hop. Some slight some you can not drive.
Want proof. Here is two videos showing the cat hop. I would say two rather well setup boats. Watch the first five seconds of this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0lKt...eature=related flat water 45 seconds (75mph) into the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpOCaGYyrOs |

5'6" Brown hair 155lb 40+ B-cup Am I close?? |
Me........aawwwwww.......just a little blue eyed, blonde hair southern girl who likes to spar with a worthy opponent.
1. Bored 2. Measurements……bigger balls than some of guys on this thing 3. Weight – you will never know 4. LOA – 5’4” 5. Forward CG 6. I can Hop at all speeds - Especially when the tab is not in the right position. |
I think she looks pretty good guy's. She has some of the right specs to be a good handling ride. You can hop up here to VA and ride in my Spectre anytime. I think you weigh just enough to correct the CG. But!!!! Leave those big balls at home. I don't roll that way :evilb:

You guys need to go for a ride in a 377 Talon, no hop at any speed. No trim tabs, no tunnel tab...just set the drives and go.

Same on the 36 Cheetahcat right on up to top speed never ever a hop,A lot of time was spent on calculations and getting it right before it left the drafting table but I guess the weight of Air is a NASA Secret. |

BTW congrats on your new lowers - I hear they are Zippity Special! |
Let me start out by saying that my boat is a 28' Daytona and between 75-80 it has a very small porpoise. So small that the average rider wouldn't even notice it but I do. I had the chance to drive a 36' Spectre a few times and all I can say is Holy Shiat! That thing had the worst hop out of any cat I have ever driven or even rode in. Between 70-90 m.p.h. I thought it might hop so bad that the props were going to come out of the water! I tried different tab and trim angles and nothing seemed to help, the only thing that helped was to speed up and drive throught it. I personally spend probably 80% of my time between 70-90 m.p.h. so for me this boat would be a total waste....just my two cents.

If you cant controll the hop and you are that afraid, you don't know how to drive a boat. I personally am a V bottom girl (and dont own a Spectre) and am confused over the lack of boating ability by you. |

There are trade offs. Eliminators have the center pod and have almost zero porpoise. However they are scary boats in offshore rough water. I have owned center pod tunnels and they are great lake boats. I prefer that style for cruising under 100 mph even in rough lakes. A good tunnel cat (and there are many lousy cats and few great cats) will have an incredible ride over 100 mph. They will eat up rough water and carve turns at high speed. The 36 Spectre is a great hull and race proven.
|
The Spectre 30 and 36 do have some minimal mid range hop as most cats do. I can take you for a ride in either boat and you will not know there is one. The 32 has 5 steps and has the hop designed out of it as does the new 42.
Didn't seem to cause the Spectre 30 and 36 from winning multiple world championships, kilo records, and Powerboat Magazine Product Excellence Awards though.................... |
Is the Spectre Cat site down? could only find the sport fish site.
|
Jay sold his cat line to Scot Conrad in California. I don't know if he has a website though.
