Wy do spectre's hop.

Every 36 spectre I have ever run has a hop to it. Wy? Unless you are in big water.

chad1 09-16-2009 05:27 PM

every non center pod cat i have rode in with the old bottoms (less steps) hop around 70 to 85 mph. skater, spectre ect.

OL40SVX 09-16-2009 06:23 PM

Not a 35 Motion!:D

OL40SVX 09-16-2009 06:45 PM

Its got a good hull! No tabs needed!

Boater8987 09-16-2009 06:48 PM

Truth be known. Spectra's would be faster w/o the hop!!

You need to do more riding.

What is its genetics? there is the answer.

Its a splashed 32 classic Skater (which hops) streched three feet. I guess the extra length and tunnel cured most of the hop.

Tres 09-16-2009 07:21 PM

A few factors I have found, Improper center of gravity, Wrong lift charecter prop, Center step placement needs adjustment( I have done this) Spray rails also need adjustment. And the deck of the canopy models hop worse because the air doesnt stall on deck properly and no low psi is not created midship back. This affects the angle of attack on the bottom. Many cats can hop but if you know where to look and fix you can get it out. Lots of folks like to cruise at 60-75 and the hop is in that zone.

Dam................. That was like it came out of a text book. I have been reading alot about "porpusing" and hull supression... VERY interesting. You can get the"hop" out of a boat.. Like Tres said.. It takes Skill and $$$:drink:

Velocity Tom 09-16-2009 07:51 PM

So does a 36 skater do the same thing ?

Steve 1 09-16-2009 07:55 PM

I have never rode in one but heard it is a nice running boat with no bad habits.

Steve 1 09-16-2009 07:59 PM

Goes back to the drafting table where cleverness along with the math skills of the designer comes into play.

HotPursuit 09-16-2009 08:33 PM

Wrong CG & bravo drives!! Install 5s on boxes or 6s and some real props and the problem goes away..

Here we go again. The Motion/Spectre although similar in design, 2 points in front and square in the rear is not a Skater. Wider tunnel, wider running surfaces, different compression ratio, longer, staggered strakes....and have pics of a wooden plug somewhere.

no

Boater8987 09-16-2009 10:22 PM

Jay = Spectre = us1kw For those who do not know. I always wonder how you guys know more about a boat than the guy who builds them?

Gee I guess Really Designing and Building them gives one a little insight.

us1kw 09-16-2009 10:26 PM

Thx!!
And for the record I have done alot of testing @ Lake X next to 36 Skaters and they perform similar.....

NO,when you see a boat with a fiberglass single piece tab bolted to the back that should tell you something. The spectre is not easy on drives either only xrs or bravo's.

Im not bashing the one for 95k looks pretty good with the 575's
You can power through the hop or re work the bottom a bit.

mine did with both merc and hering props.... matt at throttle up made me a custom set, after explaining what was happening w/ the boat etc...

now it runs w/ out any hop, at any speed range, and is MEGA fast for a 1075 boat.

hope that helps,

joe

plumbers crack 09-16-2009 10:32 PM

isnt your boat a 388??

Most new cats seem to use a tunnel tab to some extent from say 2002 to present. MTI, Skater, Spectre, DCB, Eliminator, etc. Matter of choice and where you run your boat at. 60-70 seems a different area except for the new designs such as the Spectre 32 and 42.

suicideblonde 09-16-2009 10:48 PM

Ok boys - a thought from a girl ........
SHUT UP! If you are afraid of a little hoppin, keep your d**k in your pants and stay home on the couch. Get a freakin life!
I have run boats all over the Caribbean and a little hop between 60-70 is nothing to be afraid of. Butch up!

Boater8987 09-16-2009 10:54 PM

+1 That spells it out pretty good!!!

Ha Ha Ha OK .

suicideblonde 09-16-2009 11:11 PM

truth is I've only rode in one spectre, one time and it was only about 15 minutes.....that is fact!:drink:
However I have lifetime of experience of boating in many other arenas – so it is irritating to watch people stay stupid things about simple things.

And there are educated opinions.

suicideblonde 09-16-2009 11:16 PM

BTW - you seem to take the spectre conversation personal - why?

suicideblonde 09-16-2009 11:18 PM

Didn't mean that in a nasty way at all - just wondering why you had such an interest.
