Just wondering why you wouldn't go with the single Whipple 8.3l SC versus two smaller ones? I would think with half the moving parts it'd be more reliable in race conditions.

Sean H 10-28-2009 10:08 AM

those are the old speed racer mti sterlings, not the OL race engines.

animalhouse 10-28-2009 11:04 AM

We are using 8.3 Whipples, those are not the engines going in this boat.

What about that monster 10L charger? Is Dustin still working on that? He said it was too tall for most air scoops.

forget air scoops, did you notice what we chopped off this boat, they may be taller than the canopy.

orthos1 10-29-2009 12:28 AM

Thanks guys for the thread. It tells me who cares about the quality of their work! Very nice job but you know that. I wish I could afford one of your boats! Maybe when I grow up.

QUALITY FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END!

Well I'm sure you'll come up with something. I like the molded ones on the 48 pleasure cat in Powerboat mag but if the motors are as tall as you say they are that probly won't work on this one.

animalhouse 10-29-2009 04:59 PM

no pictures today, just prepping the bottom for paint, pretty boring stuff. Paint Saturday and start rigging on Monday, going to be a long week!!!!!

animalhouse 10-30-2009 10:41 PM

To all expecting photos, they will be coming. The boat is currently in the booth receiving a fresh paint job, and will resume it's place on the floor for final assembly on Monday.

However, the engines in the race boat will be manufactured in house by Outerlimits new engine shop.

This is a full service shop providing services from rebuilds to full efi motors. The possibilities are endless. All of our engines are hand built using the finest componants and are carefully tuned on our in house Dyno.

Stay tuned, this will be a busy week

OL40SVX 10-30-2009 11:03 PM

The secret is out! The motors Outerlimits are building will be spectacular and really make this SV43 move!

Here are some Saturday progress shots. Paint booth, making some lines for the engines, and finally the engines themselves.

Since you now have engine building in house will you also be starting your own painting. That paint booth looks pretty nice.

It appeared like a large investment in a paint booth unless OL was going to start doing their own paint work. When I was out at the factory in June there was an awesome rendering from a company down the street for a new 51.

Getting a tour of the factory from Mike and Paul was very impressive. Even though the economy was in the tank Mike was busy developing new models and building some nice boats.

I think this thread has been a great way for OL to build interest in their products. Hopefully they will continue to do it on another project.

I'm just glad they're done with all the Reggie nonsense. Plus, they now have something Fountain never had; CATS!! :drink:

It is not Outerlimits paint booth.

It is in the final stages of production. Will be tested early this week and shipped to key west for the poker run. Very nice boat.

If that's what it looked like yesterday do you really think it will be ready for first splash tomorrow or Wednesday?? Is the cockpit rigged now?

Ryan Beckley 11-02-2009 06:57 PM

FOR THE POKER RUN???? I thought they were racing it???

Fred's comment was about Johnny O's Cat not the race boat. Johnny O will be running his cat down to Key West on the poker run while the SV, currently in the beginning of rigging, will be racing.

animalhouse 11-02-2009 07:43 PM

exactly, Catmando, you originally asked me about the cat, which will be running this week and shipped, the boat that is beilng rigged is the race boat, and yes, both will be ready for Key West.

AIR TIME 11-02-2009 08:05 PM

FRED will PAUL be in the shop on thursday I will be in the area 20MIN RIDE. I need to pick up the two rug samples I left Paul when I was there with Gerry Knot Right. I need to show them to two other boats next week. so if your not there can you call me so I don't waste a trip over there if there not ready to be picked up. Art 617 833 3327. thanks .
