I,m am the proud owner of a Scarab 22 and have caught the bug bad. Like I was told by many would happen I am looking to up grade. Looking to be in a bigger boat that is faster. I am looking at a Scarab 33 avs and was looking for some input from the guys in the know. What do you think of this boat? Do you know this boat? Is the price in the right range? http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o29797-en.html
Thanks for the input in advance.

Yak,
Those 500's will need the springs and valves changed, so make sure you add that to your budget. Mercruiser had problems with them and should have been changed around 200-250 hours. If you buy the boat and it has not been done, then that would be the first thing I would do before even dropping it in the water since it already has over 300 hours.

I don't know the boat personally but the AVS is a fantastic boat. Price seems to be pretty good, compared to the other AVS's for sale. I agree on the springs on HP500's. I had mine done with about 250 hrs and they were down a fair amount of spring pressure. The main concern is the center spring breaking.

A friend saw the boat in person and was NOT impressed - paint on the deck is in bad shape. Said the trailer is junk as well. On the other hand, I do happen to have another friend with the same boat, only its a 1999 with one season on fresh HP500 rebuilds...he's looking to sell and go the baby route...pm me and I'll get you in touch. Obnoxus here on the board did all the teardown and rerig on it, so he can answer any specifics should you need them.
