Hustler talkin smack on smoking Cigarette boats.

Dock Holiday 10-22-2009 01:10 PM

Funny but I was looking at it when you made the post. The mailman just dropped it off here at the office.

I think they could have worded it just a little better but my take on it is that it is funny and means SMOKE a Cig as in go out on the water and SMOKE them performance wise.

I'm just glad to see Hustler doing well.

Brad Zastrow 10-22-2009 01:19 PM

Very clever!

customryder 10-22-2009 01:24 PM

did that really make me want to buy a Hustler?

Kind of what I was thinking, Maybe a racing photo, showing equal boat equal power "Smoking the Competition" ???

Smarty 10-22-2009 04:08 PM

I notcied that too, and that new 39' Rockit with 1075's or 1025's, allegedly, will smoke a 39' or 42 Cigarette with the same power. And I believe that to be true without first hand observation, per the Hustler rep. With that said,it is a good advertisement that backs up its' claim.

I like strong talk, aggresive advertisements. Then again, I was in sales for 15 years. I just cannot afford a new Cigarette or Hustler right now. I am partial to Cigarette.

PARADISE ISLAND 10-22-2009 04:19 PM

Hustler is a fast&good boat they may very well back that ad up!:violent-smiley-021:

jeff1000man 10-22-2009 04:19 PM

I rode in the 39 with 700's and it ran 104 bumping the rev limiters.

Will a 39TG do that?

Smitty 10-22-2009 04:24 PM

Omerta from the board here made multiple passes at the shooutout with his 39 Gun and was at 105 in summer heat.

A Hustler may outrun a Cig, but it will never be the same resale value etc. I bet a Fountain with the same power will smoke them both. Now what ???

A 38 fountain I bet would haul azz with 700's. But it would still only be a 34' boat:evilb:

Hustler. Are they still in business? They can talk all the smack they want. Hustler is still an inferior product and a wannabe when compared to Cigarette .

I got my copy at the Post Office today and was reading the back cover on the walk back to my office. My thought was "Chit Reggie's got no ad money, nice to see someone talkin' smack". :angry-smiley-038: :D

I would buy a Fountain any day of the week before I'd buy a Hustler.

fountainracing65 10-22-2009 05:59 PM

Cig has been tits up before too.Hustlers add isn't really all that cleaver. At all.

isellpower 10-22-2009 06:13 PM

Hustler has nothing like the Gladiator. Unless it were 50K cheaper I'd stick with a TS TG or Gladiator over a Hustler.

I have to say after looking at the 388 next to me in DryStack... its a nice boat. But i'm still all about Fountain for Speed and Handling.

How do you know that. And, when compared to what? Bayliner?

OL40SVX 10-22-2009 06:49 PM

Hustler's are built and rigged better than a Fountain! They are a custom boat builder as oppsed to the production numbers of Fountain. They have great styling unlike the TG which has basically been the same since the 80's. I like Cigarette, Fountain, and Hustler having owned all three. Also the new Rockit with 700's will run faster than a 39 Cig, and a 42 Fountain with 700's. All three are no Outerlimits though!:D:D

pm203 please get layed tonight...

having seen one every weekend i would have to say the new 39 is rigged every-bit as nice as a cigarette.. the wiring behind the dash is impeccable. the mold work was nice as well.. resale who knows?

It was an ad...meant to get your attention. Looks like it worked. They took a shot at Ciggie. Hustler isn't the 1st manufacturer to take a shot at them, and probably won't be the last.

Skip is sitting back smiling at the free advertisement!

Everything is always compared to a Cigarette...That in itself is priceless!:drink:

I always liked the looks of Hustlers and thought they performed well. I didn't think the Slingshot cockpit was very ergonomically thought out well at all and seemed a bit chinsy to me.

And then there was the member on here who's boat basically fell apart when running back from Catalina in some big water. We were in a Tiger with 1000's and 6's, and the Hustler had 1000's and 6's. The crack down the hull kind've slowed him down though...He now owns a Top Gun.

Hey mopar or no car just kidding:evilb:Getting back to the Hustler the Mascara boat on Long Island ran close to 100 MPH a few years back in all kinds of water! Not too many cigerettes around that break the century mark! Also the few Hustlers that are out there seem to hold up pretty well!:food-smiley-007:

Tazz 10-22-2009 09:23 PM

pm203, lots of Hustler negativity, sounds like maye one or two have passed you :p

Cash Bar 10-22-2009 09:40 PM

The ONLY(recent) Fountain worth a shiit is the 42' Poker Run. That's the ONLY one I'd take over ANY Hustler.

Now, against a Cig, I'd go 39' TG but only if it's within $50k of the Hustler 39'.

No Hustler negativity here! :D.... But, when you run an ad like that, you have to be prepared to eat some $hit . Seriously though, I hope they do well and am glad they are still around.

Jeff,
You have been in the paint booth too long. It can really affect the way you see things. :D

Smitty 10-24-2009 08:56 AM

From Hustler's website-- A 39 Rockit with 700's will run 111 mph. That is faster than a 39 Gun.

I think there should be a head to head test in Powerboat Mag:drink::drink:

Jupiter Sunsation 10-24-2009 09:07 AM

Great thread......as many know I have been known to be critical of Cig's but Hustler needs to sell some more boats before trying to leap into that level of competition.

The only place I see them in FL is at the Miami boat show! Next month at the KW poker run how many will be there? Plenty of Fountains, Cigs, OL's and Nortechs so if this is their league where are their boats? I bet there will be more Apaches at this PR than Hustlers!
