stupid question..engine rotation..
Ok so I have a question about twins...I have never owned a boat with twins, but Im look to buy a new motor for my boat, (single) are the motors counter rotating? A guy has a built 454 for a good price, kinda hard to pass up, but I dont know if the motor is counter rotating or not.Or is it just the outdrive that turns counter???

It's possible to build a counter rotating engine, but 99% of the time it's the drive that reverses rotation.
|
If it is an outboard boat then more then likely it will turn in the standard rotation. If he had a inboard boat then it could go either way.
|
Doesn't seem like many performance boats are counter rotating, but I had an old silverton with Chrysler 318s one of which turned backward. Prev owner had changed the plugs, and used the other engine as a guide to hook the wires back up. That didn't work out too well for him. Easiest fix of my life. :)

About the only things that use counter rotating engines
are inboards. Stern drives use the drive to determine prop rotation. |
no its a 454..with a bravo one, so the motors turn the same way, but its the outdrive thats counter or standard rotation correct..just dont wanna buy this motor, and it be a conter rotation motor, cause it came out of a fountain with twins in it..

The 39 Ocean Express I had was equipped with Arneson 8's has counter rotating engines.
Picture of boat is at Custom Marine Sales in Lauderdale. |
the set u mentioned is typically right hand rotation. the motor will not matter. however you could check out the drive to see which rotation it has been used for. the drive should be marked twards the top with a l or r indicating the rotation, and a gear ratio.
