The tires don't last long at all running WFO, I think I saw a while back like 17 miles at WFO. But the good news is that the car runs out of gas about 4 miles before the tires wear out!!! Nice engineering!

For sure...gimme a lowly Ferarri 599 or even an R8 or something and the change left over.

LapseofReason 11-17-2009 08:17 PM

A ZR1 OR A Lingenfelter z06 c6 vette at $100k will run with all of them but the Veyron and you can buy two top of the line Outerlimits or Nortechs with the left over cash. And you can get service anywhere.

That's what I'm saying.....it's in it own category and can't be directly compared to other cars. Obviously if you only have $2mil to spend on cars you don't get one of these. DUH! If you are a collector you get one! Collectors wtih 50+ cars......! Most of those maintenence items mentioned by others have to be BS. I drove the car more than 10 miles and I was the last one to drive it of 40 people in 3 days......I will say it again. AWESOME car and can not be compared.

And if he had a safety lanyard on.. the motor would have shut off instead of idling salt water through it for 15 minutes.

The Veyron might not be the prettiest, but it is the king.

I see that the owner has been charged with fraud, car was insured for 2.2 mil. Might have got away with it had it not been for the original vid. Karma

Saw that as well, seems the high performance car in hobby has more in common with performance boating than I thought

thisistank 08-29-2014 02:23 PM

Sounds like an insurance company trying to typically weisel out of payment. Descrapancies in his story from an iPhone video? Yea, sure.

Dude paid a lot of cash to insure it for 2.2mil. I don't give a crap if he drive it into the lake on purpose. It's I insured, he paid to have it insured and they insured him. End of story.

Car still brought 277k at auction!!

mallatt442 08-29-2014 06:25 PM

I don't understand why the tow company didn't at least take it out of gear before pulling it out of the water....

bck 08-30-2014 09:00 AM

It was a different car that was auctioned for 277k

Not sure I agree.....they agreed to cover an accident not a 1.2mm profit when you intentionally drive into the water! Water is like arson, they cover fire/theft and you torch the car then you get arrested for arson regardless of what the insurance coverage is.

I was being sarcastic about purposely driving into the water. Obviously policy don't cover deliberate actions. However, why'd they cover the car for 2.2mil if it was a problem? They didn't baulk at insuring it for the agreed upon value (most likely replacement value plus presumed increase in value of such a collectible), or at taking what I presume was a heafty monthly insurance premium. they only baulk at paying out when it was time.

Maybe I just don't understand the dynamics of the incident. But as I see it, it's BS the insurance company is trying to back out.

bck 08-30-2014 07:16 PM

Guy paid 1 mil for car and insured it for 2.2 mil. 1 month later it ends up in the water. Guy claims he swerved to avoid bird and/ or lost control looking for dropped phone. Video taken by some kids who liked the car shows up on YouTube proving his claims to be untrue. I think that's roughly the story.

Story I heard was he was reaching for his phone (at least that's what the article says) never heard the bird story. Watched the video. Can't tell f*ck all what he's doing inside. And again, insurance company insured it for double it's value, that's on them. Whether he wrecked it driving out off the lot the instant he got the policy or 5 years from now. I tend to believe his story after watching the slow drift right off the shoulder. Done that reaching for something on the floorboard many times myself.

bck 08-30-2014 07:34 PM

I'm not 100 % but I think the initial story was the bird and the video disproved that so it changed to looking for cell phone which I guess the video also disproved? Edit- the story above makes no mention of the bird but I could swear I recall that being reported at the time.

It's all good. My issue is insurance companies always try to get out of their end of the deal when the sh!t hits the fan. I mean lets just for the sakes of sh!ts and giggles say it happened exactly like the guy said. How bummed would you be - out your awesome ride, insurance company denying you and now you're fighting a criminal case....bad day right there.

bck 08-30-2014 07:44 PM

Here's some mention of the bird story. I didn't look for any additional sources to back it up however.

36Tango 08-30-2014 09:11 PM

I bought a boat once for X, and due to age, the insurance company wanted a survey. Survey came back at X + 33%. I still wanted to insure it for X but they forced me to insure it at the higher value (higher premiums). 2 years later the boat was totalled when a dock collapsed due to snow load. The first offer they gave me was less than 50% of what I paid for the boat! After a month or so, we settled at X+33%, minus a couple of thousand for depreciation.

Insurance companies will fock you every chance they get, but that said, I hope that anybody that defrauds an insurance comapny gets caught and prosecuted. It drives all of our rates. I am thinking that this guy attempted fraud, but that is just my opinion.

If he committed fraud F him. Deserves to sit in a cell. It just boggles my mind someone would risk their life driving their car into a lake at a decent speed. You'd think there would be a laundry lost of easier ways to go about it no?

buck35 08-30-2014 10:10 PM

Looks like a million dollar bet to me, and hoping the rest of us will pick up the premiums.

Jupiter Sunsation 08-31-2014 06:22 AM

How many people even get to see a Bugatti Veyron let alone drive one and this guy drove it into a lake with the intention of destroying it.......douche....
