Looking for Single engine performance boat

I'm in the same situation as your friend. But I'm living in S. Calif. looking for my first boat - looking at around 25' the same price range, single engine.
Since it's my first boat, I need to educate myself a little more on them prior to purchasing -- pointers anyone??
How do I say this PC without encouraging a load of smart ass responses.....I've dated a guy w/ a power boat before, and what can I say other than I miss the boat!!!
Any pointers towards learning more about them, brands, etc. would be helpful. I'm down on Fountain since his had problems all the time, and at the moment favor Formula.

Might as well throw mine in, 229 Checkmate 454, 450hp Bravo. Lots of engine mods, 95 hrs on motor 195 on hull. Runs low 70's has 24 deg bottom for a smooth ride when the lake gets rough.
On a black imron trailer with al. mags. $15k"what a deal"
It's in Richmond VA about 5hrs from Lake Murray.

That's kickass man that your bud got his boat and also came from a fellow OSO member! Can't say this site doesn't do what it is intended to, be a family outlet, educational, party organizer, message taker ......etc.....etc....etc!!

Hey Sutphenman is that the white and blue one with the 225 ProMax on it, in BoatTrader? If so thats an awesome boat. Does it have a pad on it or is it a true 20 degree V , I know none of the other Sutphens have pads just wondering about the 21. Sutphens are one of my favorite boats. I looked for a newer 30' for a long time. Not many around, never saw one for sale.
