I get a Travelocity confirmation same afternoon! Guy is a captain of thie boat/yacht in FL. He was sent by woman who wants to but the boat as a surprise birthday gift to her husband. Guy shows up next day. looks it over 15 min. Calls her. Money wired same day. Truck comes to get it next day!
I agree with the 1000's at 105 mark. Mine had 900's (with wet #6's) tamed to run on 91 oct. at 7.3 comp ratio. There was room for more HP if you wanted it. 900's ran below the 100 mark. Best running and riding boat I have EVER been on in 20 yrs. Was heavy at 1200lbs dry.
Here is the day I sold it and the truck had to be pulled out by my truck. and he towed it ( with a 460ci )from OH to south FL!!

FYI the record was set at 123mph with a pair of 1400's Troy Dennis experimental motors

That woman is a keeper!!

You could buy it for what he has in power and drives.

Wait a second... They pulled that boat to Florida with a 1970 something Ford pickup?? You have got to be kidding me..

what started it all was an offer made on my exisitng power train, and I was thinking of buying the 41 Cougar called Pocket money that was damaged...it had 572 and 6's (wet) so i was wondering if all the brain damage and extra money would yield me 100 mph with out alot of expense, however once I started adding it all up i thought about making the trips into about 700 to see if that would get it done...but i dont like the bravo....and i really like the 6's tail.....

If the weight is correct and there was a total of 2800 HP, then the Ohio Steel boat or its clone would need about 925 HP twins to run 100 MPH. A 255 constant for a straight vee is strong....

I see...

No sheit, thats what I was thinking ! They sounded like ballers up until that point ! Yacht, Captain, impulse purchase, and then they send a brokety-ash Sanford and Sons pickup to haul it with. Doh.

Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled dribble.

I thought the same thing. To buy a piece of history like that and then tow it 1500 miles with a 30 year old Ford is sheer lunacy.

Go here:
http://go-fast.com/bam_marine_knowledge_base.htm and click on Speed Calculation. This is the easy way with out doing the math. I can dig out the formula if you want it. Once your boat set up is optimised (balance/drive height/bottom/strake position/etc) this "constant" becomes a fixed/constant for a given boat. What makes speed now is less weight or more HP.
Set up is why RF's boats are fast...he is a master. Today, Fountains better hulls are in the 275+ range.
If you know the boat weight and have Mercury power, it is easy to see what boats are most efficient. Why do some/many boat manufactures not provide accurate weights?...maybe so you can't tell their hull is less than world class.
On our old Scarab, we moved the hull efficiency to 252 from 222 as delivered from Wellcraft....with TRS drives and a hook in the bottom.
