The 640, that's it. If something better doesent come out in the next 3 months I'll probably go with the Garmin 640. Great because its portable, semi affordable, great name in Garmin, touchscreen and it will route for you (turn by turn, the 476 that I returned would not do this) which is a big feature when boating on a new waterway.

The 620 if that is the one I am thinking about is basically for international. The 640 comes with the US coastal maps installed the 620 doesnt come with any maps installed. so you have to go and buy one of their Blue water map chips for your location(s).
I bought the inland lakes chip as well.

Aha! That answers that then! I was going to ask Garmin tomorrow if they supply a 6 series without a map. I need the Blue Water map for Australia and the Visio 3D pics card. I'll look for the 620 and see what they can give me...

If you need all of the maps the 640 is the way to go. You can buy the 620 for less but if you add maps to it - it will come out to be even more than the 640. Adding maps can get expensive...
