bimini run, I'm running a pair of 300X's, w/ Sportmaster l/u, great motors, change plugs, fuel filter & lower unit fluid that's it. Could you purchase boat as is than sell motors and buy a pair of 300 XS ? Check out Scream & Fly for outboards ! "HIGH LIFE"

Every 100 hours to rebuild 2 is beyond what I would want to spend. And by saying watch where I run this boat, I guess you are referring to Checkmate's reputation for cracking? I did own an '86 Sportfire (16') and that had stress cracks like crazy. But I didn't think that would be a problem on a 30 footer. One thing you cannot argue with however, their gelcoat work is awesome.

Thanks again for all the responses, my son is going to be bummed!
The gelcoat is awesome.... when its not cracked a thousand different ways. I agree with lightspeed. He has a 29 progression that would run CIRCLES around the checkmate for way less money and along with way more reliability.

Agreed...you won't have to worry about what body of water he's running in, the progression is built for it.

Any idea how much it would cost to switch out the 250's for 300XS'? If i switched them out, i would also be selling the 250's so how much could they go for? And yes, i am looking at the one at Ocean Outboard.

BTW, that last post was from my son, he is desperate for this boat!! But a good question, nonetheless. And what is it with Checkmates and stress cracks? I now own a 22 Baja Hammer with hardly any cracks at all. I did love my Sportfire, however.
