Has any one evr gone up there with their boat. I am looking for information on the best time of year to go tour the islands. Are there ever any gatherings for say the 4th of July? Do they have festivals up there that woudl be a sideline destination?

I haven't been up there but they used to have a poker run up there a few years ago....lot of locals do not like the powerboaters, they prefer their canoes and kayaks....
here is a link, also lists some places to get gas...

Thanx much, I looked on FB and saw some of the seacaves and seinic overlooks and thought it would be a interesteing weekend. I hold 50 Gal and i can stuff another 12 in the bilg. Yes it looks to be a sailboat haven. but since i can overnight on mine i would not mind checking it out. I am considering leaving this part of the country. so i want to hit some of the unique areas. I boat mailny on the WI river, i do go over to the fox and the wolf, mainly Freemont and Winneconne. The area on the WI river that seems to be my home is just north of Stevens point, three bars and a campground and three sandbars. it is full of stumps and water hazards but if y oustay in themiddle it is OK.

A group of us went back in 98' and 99'.
We left from Duluth and travelled over there
( about 70 miles).
In 98', we just went over for the day, though it would
be neat to spend some more time there, in 99' we spent
the 4th of July weekend there.
It's beautiful up there.
Bayfield and Madaline Island is were we spent most
of our time.
We stayed at the marina @ Madaline isl. had a pretty
good time.
It was mostly the sail boat and cruiser crowd though.
The water is cold ( probably only 62*)
The worst part of the trip was the trip back to Duluth.
Heavy fog and rollers and 70 miles wasn't a fun trip
In fact, when we got back to the marina @ Superior
Wisconson, ( Duluth) the locals asked us "if we've been
over to Bayfield ?", we said "yes, just got back from there"
they said "did you go over there by boat ? " we said "yes",
they said "you guys are crazy...people from here wont even
do that".....I can now see their point.

Yep i can see their point, i would head up and put in at ashland. Just a thought to do something withthe boat besides cruise up and down the river. Iknow Blow boater adn Powerboater dont get along. But i think i woudl be cool anyway. I would think that if a person planned a trip in Aug and wind was out of the SW it would be calm. I have a 26' LOA with kinda a shallow freeboard.

I did it a few years ago. I would trailer to Ashland or Bayfield. Ashland has an excellent marina, that is where the poker run used to leave from. I launched my 32 Sunsation at Bayfield and it was tight.
