Buyers beware .....Same old story !
As some of you know a friend of mine wanted to buy some small 250 blowers with single carbs . Someone hooked me up with a WELL known engine builder in Michigan . The owner of the place told me he had 2 sets like new with only 3 hours on them . Complete ............ 2 new Nickerson carbs with new flame arresters , 2 like new 250 blowers with intakes ,brakets and all accessories , I told him we needed 2 sets of good exhaust , 2 water cross overs , all the gaskets ,and 2 holley marine fuel pumps . He said no problem ! He has everything ready to go .We overnight cetertified check last week. he says $150 shipping ??? Then it becomes $500 ! Call him Wednesday he still didn't ship it .We over night the stuff nowand it's another $500. Parts show up with yet another $500 added for drop shipping exhaust from eddys marine !! Now,,, blowers are OK, maybe, Carbs SUCK ,they look like crap and are not marine carbs , He says he couldn't find the flame arresters so he gives us 2 from MRD .They turn out to be some crap that looks like stock junk ! 1 is about an inch tall and the other is over 2" ! The water cross overs were used and ugly !We were Suposed to be buying them new from him . There is no hard ware at all for the blowers , No gaskets , 1 holley marine fuel pump and 1 NON marine no name pump !! Oh and he charged us a couple hundred extra for exhaust over what he quoted it to be ...............
PLease be sure to deal with this place in the future !! They give great deals ,always on time ,and very dependable !! Yeah right !  *#@%>!*&$% Well maybe if we put the bigger fuel pump on the motor with the smaller flame arrester it will equal out in the end . WHat do you guys think ? I think it will work !! If you see a 38 fountain cruising around with only one engine hatch scoop thats because we only had one tall air cleaner ! The other one fits under the hatch ! Hey thanks ,you saved us from buying 2 scoops ! See ,, I told you this was a good guy .See how he saved us money ! |
Boot, your post is of no good to us without naming the engine builder. Sorry for your hassles
|
if youre in nj you should try kurts competion center 732 477-7400 or theres alot of good guys at the shore. pro-rock,typoons many more.you can see before you pay. ill delivery for 1000.00
|
Sorry about the expensive hassle you just went through. But I have to agree about the post being worthless without a name attached.
Don't make me get out my crystal ball;) |
I agree with Too Old. Do what has to be done! You need to stay after people like this till they finally break down and you get what is rightfully yours. In my particular case. it took me 3 years to collect and it cost him more in attorneys fees and settlement costs than our original judgement was for. If you are not tenacious as Too Old said he will walk away from you and he will have won. We cannot let people like this get away with their unscrupulous actions. They need to be taught that we the consumer will NOT take this type of action lying down. I would also suggest you mention who this person is so that no one else here gets stung as you did. If anyone thinks you are bashing his dealer then they are sadly mistaken so long as you are ALWAYS speaking the truth! Best of luck my friend! And I am sorry to hear about your plight.

Too Old .... I agree comletely.... Am very interested in who this is.. I am getting ready to order quite a few things myself.. that cannot be tolerated !!!!!!!

Tyler Crocket Marine Engines.......
Sorry for not just coming out with it ! I just am a little timid about it till I get fired up enough . I guess since it was a friend of mine and not me was why . But it's not second hand info ,I talked to Tyler myself first and set it up . I know if it was my $11,000 or so ,I would have been on the first plane with the bat in hand ! THis is unbeleivable.
Glad I didn't send my motors out there to be done like he wanted me to . SO there it is for all to see . BEWARE !! My friend plans on calling the BBB & anyone else that will listen too! This guy is not one to be messed with . He is in a possision in life where when someone deserves it ,he will stop his normal life ,no matter how long or how much money it takes , to persue the guilty until it is righted . I hope Tyler has a change of hart before it reuins his rep . Untill now I had never herd anything bad about him ......... |
You mean to tell me Tyler Crockett marine did this....?......HOLY CHIT..............why have I heard soo much good about them.....
I'm sure this board will have a fit over this.......;) |
Boot,
Certainly can't argue the facts, but dude, I gotta tell you, that was the LAST name I thought I would read. Actually, it sounds unbelieveably out of character for them. Sorry to hear about your problems. |
I cannot believe he would do that with his rep. !!!
Boot good luck in getting this straight ! Hope he makes it right ! |
My Jaw is on the floor after reading that name!!!! You sure you were dealing with him? Or was it maybe one of his lackies taking credit for being him? If it was him this could really cost him much more then the financial end of things. I hope there was just some SERIOUS missunderstanding and I hope your buddy gets satisfied by this whole mess.
Jon |
I would have held off on the name and sent him an email with a link to the thread. Then just ask him if his reputation with thousands of boaters is worth making this situation right. Thats why I figured you were holding back on the name at first. Good luck and keep your cool. You may be able to resolve this.
|
All I can say is WOW. I was very surprised to hear that name with that problem?:(
|
ARE you sure you didn't call......
SUNNY CROCKETT marine.... Sounds like Don Johnson walked on out to that old SCAB and pulled the parts right off... ;)
Just kidding,, obviously,,, but 11 grand is nothing to kid about... hope it gets straightened out... |
i can't believe tyler crocket would let something like this go with out taking care of the problem before it gets out of hand!! he has too much at stake with his reputation o the line.tyler lets here your side of this please???????? :( :( :( :( :(
|
I read this post and I cannot believe it. I hope it is a stupid mistake or big misunderstanding. This is not like the Tyler I delt with last fall. I spent a lot of money with him and he did great work.
To me he is an engine builder first and formost and he really knows his stuff. He is not set up to be a parts wholesailer or a major rigger. This is only my opinion though. The only real complaint I had with him is that the work he did was much slower than anticipated. But his work was focused on quality not speedyness. I had him basically re-rig my boat and at the time he lost a worker or two and had to do the work himself. This added to the extra time needed. I am expecting to do more work with him soon I hope all works out for both parties. |
boot, sorry to hear this kind of chit.
I would have had them deliver the parts COD,this way if you didn't like them just tell the UPS guy to keep them. |
You saying there is $1500 charge for shipping alone??????
Something doesn't sound right here. 3 increases of $500 each for shipping alone. After the 1st $500 increase, think I would have said to cancel. |
First of all this person that is bad mouthing me (I"m Tyler Crockett) does not own the boat that these parts went on nor was he privy to the conversation I had with the guy who purchased these parts. This is what really went down.......
Boot emailed me and asked me about blowers and I told him I knew where there were some 250 blowers with approx. 3 hrs on them. Then he contacted the guy that actually bought the parts and from then on I dealt directly with him not this boot guy. Then after talking with the guy who actually bought the parts, he wanted to purchase 2 fuel pumps, water cross overs, & Eddie Marine Exhaust. At that time he said he would over night a check for the cost of the parts and I had estimated the shipping charges which he was aware of at the time at 150.00 which would of been had the stuff been shipped UPS ground. At that time I never told him I was going to send the parts the next day. We normally wait till we recieve the check and it gets deposited and we know we are dealing with a good check (because I am still trying to recover from a bogus certified bank check that the UPS driver in New York accepted for $13000.00 it was counterfeit). So with everyone I deal with I have to be very careful. At the time he agreed to purchased the parts and sent me the check he didn't inform that he was planning on boating in the next couple of days. Then he called me on tues. 4/16 & had not received the blowers yet, I told him that I was still packaging all the parts for safe shipping & at that time I told him there were no flame arrestors with these blower packages. I told him that I would send a couple of my flame arrestors that he could put on his boat and run it until he had the flame arrestors he needed and ordered. When I went into my parts room all I had in stock that I could send him that day were 1 - 2" Gaffrig flame arrestor and 1- 3" Gaffrig flame arrestor. I knew at that time they were 2 different flame arrestors but if he was that adament about having all these parts shipped next day air freight collect so he could be boating that weekend and be Coast Guard legal. This complete blower package was origianlly purchased from Dean Nickerson and bought for a marine engine by another individual, I just knew of the blowers and relayed the message to this person who owned them and wanted to sell them. I inspected the blowers which had zero hours on them and were complete with all bolts, hardware & O rings because I personally packaged the units. I called the customer that bought all these parts and gave him the price of what it was going to cost to ship these parts next day air because I did not know until I had them packaged and weighed what it would cost exactly as I never talked about next day air charges when originally purchased. I told him the cost up front before everything was shipped it would be $536.00, at that time he told me he had to have them and ship them out. He had them the very next day! Until today I still have not heard from him if he was that unhappy why didn't he personally call me? He knew all costs before everything was shipped out it was explained what he was getting, the cost of shipping everything and the flame arresters were just loaners. I will gladly send him a check for a $150.00 which was the original estimated shipping costs that was included in the orginal check when he sends my loaner flame arrestors back. I was not aware of any of this till someone emailed me and told me to check out this site today! In Ruby what we do when we have a problem with somebody we call them direct we don't bad mouth them on websites! |
as always......................two sides to every story!:D
|
That makes alot more sense. Like I said, $1500 for shipping, with 3 $500 increases, "something doesn't sound right". Appearantly because the original post has been misleading.
Glad you were able to clearify things T. Crockett, but then again, sorry you had too! I vote for deleting this thread now. |
Exellant point Troutly.
|
tyler, most of us that know you and your great reputation ,really knew that things didn't add up with this post, unfortuneatly you had to defend your reputation ,but the cream does come to the top!! keep up the good work!:)
|
Two sides to every story and an excellent reputation remains intact.
Maybe next time as Mr. Crockett stated....a simple phone call. Let's try resolving these things BEFORE posting...just a thought! |
Tyler- Good move coming on the board and giving your side of the parts counter before it got too out of hand.........Now, were you aware of the OSO rule that any registered member must be available to answer the technical questions of any fellow OSO brother 24 hours a day 7 days a week, so help you god?....Its part of the OSO bruthahood......!!!
|
Welcome to the board Tyler. Your reputation preceeded you! Glad you had a chance to respond.
|
Tyler , I had no intentions of posting your name till things were resolved between you and the buyier . All I ment by it was to show people to make sure of what they buy before they buy it .It was not ment to bash you . I beleive you have a good reputation . Maybe I should have not said your name YET .
My name is JOE ,and I did infact talk to you and set the hole thing up for Grant . (Then Grant called you to finalize the deal ).I will post my phone bill if you like . I talked to you PERSONALY . I told you exactly what he wanted : 2 good blowers with single carb set up , 2 sets of new exhaust ,and ANYTHING else he needs to make it work . You said you recomend water cross overs and that they sell for $275 each motor . I assumed they would be new . THats my fault I geuss because they were NOT new . You told me the blowers had 3 hours on them now you say 0 hours? You said the guy put them on with no hatches, drove it a couple hours and his wife wouldn't let him cut the hatches so he had to remove the blowers ! YOu don't remeber telling me this ? While I was on the phone with you ,you said you were standing right next to the box ,looking at every thing and you specifcaly stated the flame arresters were in there too . YOu told me they were from MRD and you also told that to Grant later. I can see when things go wrong and you try to make good by sending something that will work to get by . But there was no mension that these were on loan . What about the fuel pumps ? HE requested 2 new holley marine high flow fuel pumps . He got 1 and some other no name brand that wasn't even high volume . Why didi you do this ?Fuel is not something to play with on a blower motor . Since it took a few days for you to pack it I'm sure you could have got 2 matching pump. don't you ? Or was that a loaner too ?? You also told me you had exhaust in stock . Thats fine if you didn't but you never mensioned the OTHER $500+ to ship the exhaust from Eddie marine direct ! Grant also asked for EVERYTHING needed to do the job .And he did ask for complete gaskets . THere were none . Why not ? I don't know if the carbs were the same "new / 3 hours " or not but they were in very bad shape . Very dirty and coroded . I am sorry for exaderating the price of shipping at $1500. You charged him over $500 + the $150 still on the bill ,Then eddie marine charged another $500+ ! You didn't mension that before hand . We assumed ,because you said , you had it all in stock and didn't expect another charge on top . SO it was probably around $1300 for shipping . I agree overnight was added but the $1300 is along way from "about $500 " you stated . Thank you for the "loan" of the air cleaners .I am sure he will be happy to return them . The original price was suposed to include them . MAtching ones we assumed .Will there be a discount for them not being included now ? What about the fuel pumps ? Are they on loan too ? Will he return them for the right ones ? And do you get $275 for used or new water cross overs ? As for the hard ware , I don't know what to say as it was not there . Was it in a different box maybe that got lost in shipping ? I do apologize for exaderating on the shipping .Forgive me . As for the rest .Thats the facts ! You even said 2 different things in your post . First they had 3 hours on them then you said they had 0 hours ! Do you deny sending the wrong fuel pumps ? Do you deny sending used crossovers ? Do you agree that those carbs were not close to new or even 3 hours ? Do you still deny talking to me ? And yes ,You finalized the deal with Grant not me because I wanted no part of it . (And wish I had not been involved but he asked me to .)I was there with him and herd the conversation . In a way I regret posting this . Only because Grant had not tryied to resolve it yet and I would like to see your response to him first . Although it would be the same as it is to me obviously . As soon as everyone sees my reply and gives you a chance to state your reply to my quesions and coments ,I will delete this post . All I did was state the facts ! I am sure anyone here would be upset if they had this happen to them . I am not bashing you or your rep. But it realy surprised me that a man in your place would let this type of thing slip out the door as is . PLease reply to this if you would to clear up eveyones mixed feelings right now on you and I . Please let me and everyone know if I have stated ANYTHING not true .. Then this post will go away . Thanks , Joe PS . if there is any more quesion about what was sent right or wrong ,I will post pictures of everything received and my phone bill if needed . Thank you , Lets end this quickly .;) |
Sorry I forgot to finish my first paragraph . The only reason I let the name out was that my e-mail was swamped with people wanting to know who it was and some were very upset I didn't say the name to forwarn them as they were about to do buisness in that area . I felt it was a fair thing to do on everyones behalf . I only state the facts .I went no farther .
PS. Tyler ,I did contact a mutual friend of yours and mine that I beleive works for you or with you or something like that . I am sure you know who I mean . I may have been out of line to do so but I just wanted to know if he knew anything about it that would clear it up . When I told him "MY " side , he was shocked too . He wantd to talk to you about it . I herd nothing back .Of course there are always 2 sides to the story . But please let me and everyone know if I have not stated the facts here . Or if I have made a mistake with part of it . Thanks ,JOE |
Boot,
You are right about trying to work things out before posting. Unfortunately emotions are high when dealing with large amounts of cash. The board is a great way to vent. It's bad when you need to record every phone call that deals with business. Boot's post should teach us to be suspect of all business dealings. I guess we need pictures, legal contracts, etc. It is a shame it has come to this. I have heard many people praise Tyler Crockett. We are all human and we all make mistakes. What we are trying to communicate doesn't always get across. These are some MAJOR differences. I know there are two sides to every story and hope Tyler can make another response. I hope you guys can come to a mutual agreement. Keep us posted. We need to know when someone is taken advantage of. Thanks for posting this, Dan |
I wondered why the fuel pumps, crossovers & Carbs were not addresed in the Co.s reply ? One of the great things about this board is finding out who is fair & square. If you look at the amount of views of this page........I think lots of others want to here "the Rest Of The Story".
|
I think you need to let Tyler and Grant work it out between themselves and you need to MYOB! It 's not your boat nor was it your money that paid the bill! Second hand stories are wrong and people should work out there differences themselves before they come on here (or in your case let their friends come on here) this isn't a place to trash someone's reputation for NO reason.
|
Hey Mik,
Are you a new member,or a "regular" who doesn't want everyone to know your sticking up for your buddie? |
I am not one to get in on these discussions but MIK you struck a nerve. The reason I come to this board is to learn about what is going on in HP boating. I am hoping to learn from other people. The good results, the bad & not making the same mistake they made. The title of this thread says it all "BUYER BEWARE" None of us knows what went down, who is right & who is wrong. I am assuming that the 2 will work it out. I agree that a call should have been made. I think both parties agree that NO calls were made. I know if it was me I would have called. Yes THIS TIME it was not my parts, my boat or my money. Next time it might be. After reading this thread would I do business with Tyler? Probably. I hear alot of good of Tyler.
Boot said he would delete this post after all the facts are aired. At this time I see no reason why he would not do so. |
Turbojack I am not one to get on discussions either but after reading this after seeing all the hits I had to respond something which I never do. I just felt the person who owned the boat owed Tyler a phone call before he let someone loose on here without all the facts! Hopefully he will give Tyler a call and work it out that is the thing I know I would do. I would only resort to this if I couldn't resolve the issue with the guy and needed advise from others who may have been in the same boat one time or another!
As for doing business with Tyler would I? Yes I have and will continue to do so his rep goes without saying! |
Before this gets carried away I just want to set things straight .
Mik ,this is not second hand hand info .I DID IT , I CALLED TYLER TO BUY PARTS , I SET IT UP , THEN turned it over to Grant while I was there and part of the final conversation. I am not saying tyler is bad . I am saying what was ordered and priced out didn't show up . Something else did with a different price . If you ordered a Porche and received a honda for the same price with no explanation ,what would you think ? Maybe the seller and/or shipper would call first and let you know that ? We are all here to know all there is to know about boating .GOOD OR BAD . Thats the facts . The fact is Tyler called Grant and has agreed to work things out . WHat ever the reason that the parts were wrong and not priced as represented doesen't matter . The fact is they were . We all get bussy and forget things or overlook things . We all make mistakes ! This board is great because the truth always comes out ! Some times we learn some people on here are bad people and some times we learn some buisness owners are bad .( And NO that was NOT a crack at Tyler ) I mean in general . I would just like to say that something went wrong and Tyler has agreed to make it right .;) I think Tyler did a great thing by agreeing to fix the problem . Of course we all get bent out of shape when things like this do happen and maybe we should . But as long as it gets worked out , I geuss thats all that matters . Aside from a few extra weeks of missed boating thats all . Thanks Tyler for helping this get resolved . When it is , I will post again and and praise tyler for it . JOE |
As always Too Old,You hit the nail on the head!!:D And Boot I know how you feel......You set this up for youre Buddie,so you feel kinda responsible. Hope this all gets worked out and I gotta believe posting to this board has helped it get worked out. With this many members i think maybe we have a little "pull" with retailers !!!! {thank OSO!} I will continue watching this thread for the outcome.
|
Tyler's local here, and he's done alot of peoples boat's that I know, and the only complaint I've heard is the problem we all have, if you do 70, you want 80, if you do 80, you want 90, never anything from Tyler, he's as straight up as they come. We shared floor space wih him at a cobo boat show a few years ago, and I met a ton of his customers and they all praised his work, and his straight up personallity. He's done blower motors for customers orders, and sold parts to friends of mine on many occasions. I know if ever I need anything he's the first person I'd call, and probably the only person I'd call. If something isn't right, he takes care of it, he's how I wish most places were. I see your concern boot, I'd be concerned too, but this board isn't the place, not that quickly, It would have been a much better story to hear how tyler came thru after a mixup.
|
I think what BOOT did was 100% correct. What better way to get quick results. Lets face it mistakes were made but they were made not in error but in full knowledge of making them. Yes TYLER may be correcting his mistakes as he should but they should not have been made in the first place. Just another example of a company learning about the vast negative advertizing the internet can be.
|
And the saga continues... :o
|
Just an update and thank you ......
Received a check from Tyler on partial reembersment on shipping . One quesion though . Called Nickerson about those carbs and he said they are ----- 7 years old -------- Guess thats why they look like they do . Thanks ,JOE |
