I just answered the guys question about what standards they use.
As far as noise, motorcycles and snowmobiles have standards. In fact snowmobiles are worse than boats. Touch your stock exhaust and get stopped and you get a ticket. If you hate LG so much why are you even reading this thread? |

How is the Hudson around there? Any open water? Speed limits? too many locks?

We've taken the boat up there a few times for day trips only. My wife loves Lk George. I like it, but it is kinda strict. We have never had a problem with police. I just follow the speed limits, wave and try to mind my p's and q's. I make sure my permit is placed on the windscreen. It's only like 8 bucks for the day. No big deal. It did take some serious research to find a decent launch. We go to either Castaway's or Fishers.
BTW, where is a good marina/hotal to stay with the boat for the night? It seems all the marina's/hotels have very small guest slips (if any for that matter) for overnight accomadations. The boat is 30' so I would need something decent. I know they do not allow any anchoring in the bays overnight. Kinda silly, but oh well. |

I have to say that LG is one of the best buoyed places that I have ever been. If you pay any kind of attention you are pretty good to go there. |
I will say that the marking of the Sacandaga could be better for people that are not familiar with it. But most of the problems happen when the lake is down 8' or more and people run inside the markers. I can't recall anyone having a problem during the poker runs or fun runs. I've run the lake when the level was 13-15' below normal.
If anyone wants to come up and run, let me know and I'll try to show you a good time. I'll even supply refreshments.:drink: |

Lot of places I would like to hit in NY with the next boat. Lake George, Sacandaga, Champlain, etc. Hard to get around the beauty of the home base of the 1000 islands though. I know a lot of people get nervous about running up there but grab a gps or someone that knows where they are going and you are all set.

agreed. Its buoyed, but the water level changes can mess you up if you are new. Best way to play is with someone like RJ as a guide.

Anything you could hit is marked. So if you stay 200 feet from the shore and the danger buoys you wont hit a thing.
You need to stay 200' from the buoys? If so, thats why people that aren't familiar with the lake get nervous about it. |

If you keep the markers between you and shore you'll be fine.

There is NO doubt in my mind what they make. Watching them make it on the dyno is just pretty cool.

You are correct, I was in Bolton. I only ended up there because after 3 Months of phone calls atleast 50 of them,That was my only option. I mean I could not find a single place to launch without a hassle and I have not even begun to talk about the lack of or Zero transient slips. It was just the biggest hassle I have ever had going boating. I have boated in all of the great lakes and from Ny to Fl. I have been in the Bahamas and keys all on my own boat. I have always respected boaters. In general we are some of the best people in the world especially when it comes to helping each other. The Lake George attitude was something I have never seen in the boating community anywhere in this country and beyond.
Anyway, Cocktails, and some of you other guys that are looking for nice places to do some boating...COME TO MICHIGAN! , but if you have never been to TORCH LAKE (rated at something like the 3rd most beautiful lake in the world by National Geographic Magazine). The crystal clear blue water you can see something like 20+' down. The lake is very deep, sandy bottom and roughly 18 miles long and about 2.5-3miles wide or so. It is located only minutes away from Grand Traverse Bay...another gorgeous boating spot with awesom clear water! Go to the Great Lakes, Canada forum within OSO and/or do a search of TORCH LAKE. You can do a little research for launching ramps or read the threads in the forum. There is a thread running there now. Torch Lake has a spot there called the "SAND BAR" where hundreds of boats will anchor or beach there boat...and it is like GOD's country up there---you'll think you're in another world. It can get quite busy around there, but I am sure you will have a much better experience than the nightmare you have described above. As long as you're a COOL PLAYER I have found that you most likely will not have any problems with the law. Rev your engines un-neccessarily in a harbor or marina area, or go too fast near anchored boats or high traffic area and you're most likely going to get some attention from the law you're probably NOT going to like. Here's a photo of Torch Lake---you can see 100's of boats on the sand bar in the distance... |
