Never fails!

No mater how much you plan and prepare, the only thing i can count on is something going wrong to throw a wrench in my plans.
Weeks of preparation, making plans and 2 days before the boat is scheduled to leave for Havasu, we hurt a motor during testing. For 2:00 yesterday until 5:00 pm today I have done nothing but try and get a replacement motor or pair of motors. At 5 pm today I went home with a migraine, beat like a whipped dog. Out of options. I laid on the crunch and took a nap and just woke up recharged. I'm going to give it one last try tomorrow.

Anyone have a set of Sterling 1550's quad rotors they want to sell. I figure it's a long shot but it's worth asking.

I'm not out yet and really want to make it. Anyone have any feasible solutions, let me know.

Panther 04-15-2010 08:44 PM

You talk to JC??? I thought he had those speedracer mills?? Maybe they sold or the guy finally got em?

Racegirl3 04-15-2010 08:46 PM

Good luck!

offshoredrillin 04-15-2010 08:56 PM

Actually Bill Pyburn offered to loan me his other long blocks. Very nice jesture, that i appreciate very much. Just not enough time for all that.

BenPerfected 04-15-2010 09:02 PM

Get John T to get a set of the new Merc twin turbo's. Get Mercury then to set them up for max HP with no warranty. Just $.....you might like them long term. Rigging, tail pipes, etc. would be a challenge with the tight window.

At a minium, all this activity would be fun!

I heard about 6 miles per hour faster in a very short distence WITH a 1:35 gear.

I will admit those light, little lake boats have some good acceleration!! :drink:

LubeJobs42 04-16-2010 11:38 AM

I am truthfully kidding. It was very nice of Bill to offer what he did.

So is there any chance that you could make it? It would have been great to see 2 boats from the east coast out front...................the red one way out front :grinser010:

You can still make it if you get some power in there this weekend!!! kick Larry in the a$$ and get going.

kvschoolboard 04-16-2010 04:56 PM

Dave Scott has a pair ready to go at his shop at loto, now no excuses against the 388

Brad Zastrow 04-16-2010 05:18 PM

I love how everyone is spending Gino's money. Just buy another set of 1550's to go to a Poker Run??? Those engines cost more than most complete boats.

LubeJobs42 04-16-2010 07:30 PM

Looks like we are going to make it. Unfortunitly we won't have a matched set of motors. The best we could do with the time was get another smaller motor and put my accessories on it. I'm dispointed we won't be running hard but at least we are going to make it! Looking forward to meeting all the west coast people face to face!
Thanks for all the PM's with advice!

Maybe he has some extra's. According to this thread he's got a few sets of Sterling in the shop.

Not sure if I can post a link on this board or not.

People don't normally "loan" a $90k engine. I was hoping to maybe find a deal on an engine that someone would let go for a good price. The old Speed racer motors were sitting around for a long time. I was hoping someone could use some cash more then a motor taking up space.

There are a few new one's around but truthfully, I don't have an extra $90k sitting around to buy an extra motor for a poker run.

The other option i was thinking: A few weeks ago Jayboat broke his lense and everyone chipped in to get him a new one.............

Panther 04-16-2010 08:13 PM

Glad it worked out!

Some suggestions were made and glad you got a mil. Have fun!

Formulabill 04-16-2010 09:47 PM

Gino,

Last week i sent Jayboat $100.00 , for you i'm offering the use of my deck boat with the 115 Yamaha. Put the top up and cruise around Havasu in cool comfort.

Cash Bar 04-16-2010 10:26 PM

Man, that's a sweet offer. I shoulda broke a motor. Or had a boat...or something.

HotPursuit 04-16-2010 10:30 PM

That sucks but happens to the best of us!!! Didn't want to say anything but look at the oil pressure gauges in the video of the 193 pass,I think they were 45-50# @ 6500 RPMS. I know my power will not live at that oil pressure. Hope you make your trip.

If he needs two complete engines I would find another engine builder!! What broke??

It aint how fast you go but how far you can go fast!!! Keith Nunez :drink:
I could set my chit on kill but like poker runs more than drag racing and I still break unbreakable parts!!

I'm pretty sure that was just Gino's polite way of telling you just because the guy's on MidWestPartyBoat still tolerate you, he won't.

Gino, if I'm completely off-base let me know, and I'll gas this post.

Regardless of whether it was Jim Darr or not Dave Scott was the first name I thought of when Gino posted that he was looking for some big motors to replace the one he hurt... Just because the messenger has some issues doesn't mean the message is necessarily bad....

But then again I didn't see this post until today and it looks like Gino's got it under control...

Different set up then mine. They have head gaskets. When you add the price of the conversion to the asking price they are out of my budget.

I do $29.95 oil changes for a living!:drink:
