I would sell it too with those "mustard and tangerine" seats!!! Good grief! :D :D

(the anchor looks a little small too)

Catmando 05-18-2010 01:08 PM

"Performance cruiser" LOL that pig won't even get on plane.

Coolerman 05-18-2010 01:14 PM

the boat ran 71mph when it had 525's. Its around 60 now with 496's. It took along time, but it handles decent as well with minimal roll. The inside of it is nice, but I do agree that the outside does look pretty ugly tho.......

jcl 05-18-2010 01:23 PM

"This boat is New and will turn heads wherever she goes"

I BET IT DOES...:lolhit:

Gladhe8er 05-18-2010 01:35 PM

Wow, that thing is a beast! I like it other than the colors and 496's.

DollaBill 05-18-2010 01:39 PM

Oh, I'll bet it turns heads! LMAO. 400K??? hahaha. maybe 50,000

BLee 05-18-2010 01:41 PM

That sure does seem like a small engine package for such a big boat.

Does anyone know what the biggest engine package Black Thunder has ever put in one of their 46's is?

Have they done any with 1075's & 6's, or bigger? Whatever the biggest is that someone posts, how did it run?

Interesting......how much does it weigh? My 45 Apache (LOA 48 feet) has triple 502MAG and can manage 60MPH with the right water. I can get it to plane with two though (had to do this more than once..........urgh!).

About dam TIME you posted a pic of that boat, hell I thought it was a joke I'd never heard of a Sunseeker Apache.

What are those motors, 415hp if I remember correctly? Surely you can bump that up w/o using blowers?

It's nice to have trips in a boat that big when one goes down. I have personal experience...

I think I saw Merc 850s in one, ran over 90 iirc...

Bill you do realize it probably has 200K in McCleod interior in it right? :D

Boat is easily the ugliest BT ever built. The boat is a turd and IF National can find a buyer who likes it, then he won't be able to find another buyer to sell it to years later.......

The bow rail, the swept back windshield......it is all bad then the 496's are the final blow into letting you know this isn't the boat to own!

Catmando 05-18-2010 02:32 PM

Twin or trip Yanmar 480s and Arneson #8s would have been the best powertrain imo.

The fastest would have to be SAXMAN and his Dad's 43 Flat deck.
There was a turbine 43 Sport cruiser back in the mid 90's that I sold. That had to be the most power ever.
I think somebody is building one now with some big power.

And Jason, that 71 had be down stream on the Mississippi right?

Why the engine swap?

Strip Poker 388 05-18-2010 02:38 PM

The interior do stand out,if it had a paint job the same color:drink:

DollaBill 05-18-2010 02:44 PM

Spiker 05-18-2010 03:17 PM

LOL......are you talking about a phantom boater? One that talks about boats they had but never really had one? :D :drink:

From what I recall.....yes, the 502MAG is rated at 415HP.....but not sure. Blowers? LOL It's not made for a speed contest! It already uses enough gas! It has a single 390 gallon gas tank. :D

In these pictures......I was actualy trying to get up on plane with the center motor and the starboard one. The port motor was locked up for some reason. Doesn't matter now.....all three motors are coming out this week (again!!!!!).

The 48' was a 46' with a different deck, and since then the bottom has been highly modified. I think it is only a 44' running surface tho.......

A 460 EC was built with merc 700's and ran 89mph in powerboat. Another 460 EC was built with merc 850's and ran 95mph on the limiters.

There is currently a 460 SC with staggered 1200's being finished up right now.

Bob wanted to do duo props and 496's......... I have no idea what the idea was..... When the boat was built, it ran a solid upper 60's and hit a best of 71. There were handling issues that Bob thought duo props would fix. Should have had arnesons with the bottom mods and 600's imo.

Nort on the smaller stuff we would helm the boat over back and forth that helped to get up on one motor.

wrinkleface 05-18-2010 07:41 PM

Have a 48 ft. Excalibur in my barn up north w/ 496's & bravo 3's!! 12 ft. beam I believe, not sure how well it runs but a big azz boat 4 that engine/drive combo!!:party-smiley-004:

Oh ok. I was on here four years before I finally found a boat I could afford lol but at least I never lied about always having one and having many others in my stable. I mean, he lied about owning APACHES??? Jeez :lolhit:

boatme 05-18-2010 08:44 PM

They started building this boat in 2001 or 2002 i think

It was Don Jenkins project for many years till they finaly finished it

As Terry said the biggest power for a BTwas a twin turbine called "The Turbinator" Terry can tell you how fast that boat was he certianly knows the most about those boats from back then

Two seasons. Enjoyed every minute except for the re-entry after launch(flat bottom) and the 1050 Dominator carb which made smooth shifting and docking an impossibility. I was able to get it to 90 with that 24" prop. Cruising at 60-80 was a blast in that little boat.

I enjoyed the stares and crowds the most. No one on my lake had ever seen a boat like that and they wanted to know who built it(Art Carlson) and what motor(540ci/600hp Ford). Bravo1 drive Latham full hydraulic twin ram steering.

The engine hatch was an incredible feat of craftsmanship. I had 10 pages of drawings and mathematics on the hatch alone.

Deja vu?

Is it me or does the helm seating look like a throwback to an 80s Donzi?

Not sure if they ever dialed in but the owner told me the Turbinator was handfull at 105 and that's all he was willing to try.

As for the cruiser, Don always had a sketch of it on his desk. It was a boat he wanted. I ususally just nodded when he would show it to me and then I would change the subject.

Hard to find much to like about that thing.

Assuming the speeds quoted from the 700 & 850 boats, this one should run comfortably over 100 it sounds like.

The comment Terry posted about "The Turbinator" being a handful at 105, makes me wonder if this 1200 boat will have the same ride?

Have they made any bottom changes since the Turbinator was built, that could have cured any potential handling issues for the 1200 boat?

btw: I think "The Turbinator" is probably the best name I've ever heard for a powerboat with turbines. THAT, is a classic http://smiliesftw.com/x/bowrofl.gif
