JC Perf,
You are dead on, it's crazy. We all work so hard and sometimes you have to make tough decisions in business but to be ripped in world wide format and then have people that know nothing about the topic rip you can be frustrating. Unfortunatly dealers, mfg and other cannot say anything or we get bashed but then when some of the same people put these "bad energy" post up there the same ones that come back and ask for help and act as if they never made the post. Can we make everyone happy, no but we try in an industry that is down, losing dealers, vendors, etc at record pace. We don't need to hurt the industry more than it has already been affected by economy or other but rather spend "good energy" making it better. Although not fun and does not feel good I can live with being beat up over not selling someone a boat but don't understand why you get put in the penalty box for not selling something. Was it blown out of proportion, yes it was. Could have I responded quicker, yes if I had my phone on. Could have the consumer been patient and not involved another family member yes. Could have this same consumer not yelled at my service manager whom is not involved in sales transactions, yes. We live and certainly learn. Regards, Shogren Performance Marine www.teamshogren.com

These message boards give those that are quick to bash a very large audience and the ability to do quite a bit of damage with very little effort on their part. I wonder if these same people will be surprised that there may be some reluctance for dealers, suppliers, engine builders etc. to do business with them in the future?

Its two - fold, our markethas changed for all involved. Buyers think they can do what and request whatever they feel even if it breaks the rules. Sellers are stuck and are realizing that in order to make a deal they need to bend over backwards to earn.
THere are some businesses - some marine included who are amuine (sp?) to unique business practices of buyers. also we are in a generation where people who feel that when they have been wronged there is no simmer process to calm down and rethink. They shoot from the hip and in this case (theses cases) they yap about it online. Grow up people, mature a little. IF you want the boat that bad, put a deposit down. If you need parts put some research in. Dont bash at first whim. |
I am VERY sorry, I dropped the ball.......What can i do to earn your business ?

I say that even if I didn't drop the ball. I still have every customer I ever apologized to. |

This forum has been a blessing to this industry for many reasons. One of the reasons is handing a slice of humble pie to those that let their high and mighty ego do and say things that stray from true professionalism. There is nothing in hell wrong with it. Keeps everyone in check. I wish my industry had such and option to keep people informed and the pros thinking before speaking/typing. Neil |

Regards, Shogren Performance Marine www.teamshogren.com I post on here ocassionally also, but a while back, I contacted Shogren Marine about a boat that I was interested in. I received a reply from Scott...actually several replys...NONE of which that were PUSHY or treating me with the dumb-ass approach. Scott treated me like we had been friends for years and I have never met the man...hopefully that will change someday. I have a friend here that bought a used Sonic from him 2 years ago and my friend had nothing but wonderful things to say about Scott. From my email dealings with Scott and his business...and my friends dealings with them...I dont give a S**T what some PUTZ has to say about them in a negative way...it is NOT going to change my opinion of the Shogren name in any way. The bashing that was in a thread about Shogren...I didnt even bother to read it. That is how UN-INTERESTED in it that I am. From the way that Scott treated me thru the emails...answering endless questions and always being professional about it...it has earned very high respect that has no chance of changing...especially from some crybaby. |

I may be the exception here, but I find some of these threads informative. I recently found my race engine siezed after paying a highly respected performance shop to winterize it. I haven't "bashed" them on line-but I wished I had read threads from others before going to this shop. How a shop/builder handles a problem can make all the difference. If a builder/shop handles the problem fairly, this should be posted also.

Everyone has his/her own opinion and naturally each thinks they are right and the other is wrong. There will be disagreements; that's a given. True character is defined more by how those disagreements are dealt with. Unfortunately, forums like this one enable those who would rather make disagreements public domain so as to gain the support of others, rather than handling them like gentlemen in private. Just a sign of the times I guess. I like the tech savvy that some of the members have, enjoy reading about the boating industry in general, love reading about Bobthebuilder's travels, but the drama threads seem to get the most attention. That's sad. I'm not a big time offshore powerboater, just a guy on a lake who likes to take boat rides and see nice hardware on the water. Boating should be an escape from drama....at least that's how I'd like to be, even in the virtual world. |
As I had said in the other thread, i can empathize with both party's. I also know what it is like to be on both ends of the stick here on the forums. mine and my friends integrity was questioned about a certain individual, by another individual that was guilty of poor business practices. I have also done my best to make members aware of people that deceive and are poor business's.
The forum is a tool, plain and simple, if a person wants to profit from the forum, then he must be ready to deal with an adverse situation. when I did a group buy for oil a few years back, I handled every transaction perfectly, still had two guys try to hose me and cancel the credit card transactions, I showed proof of delivery through records and calls, they saw the error and it was done, but I will never offer that again, period. As for Scott's situation, I will take his side, from my reading he was in the process of making everything right and a breakdown in communication for a certain time as well as an "excited" customer, came to an early halt. As for the people that say the customer is always right, I wholeheartedly disagree, they are right only when they are right. As much as businesses are held to a certain ethics code, i believe the consumer has a certain code to live by as well. It is VERY hard for an honest business to deal with dishonest clients. |

When it comes to BASHING, unless the poster is willing to post their own information, NAME, LOCATION, I don't even pay attention. However their are some dealers that deserve to be called out, we know who they are, and some customers who should be called out as well.
The Marine industry is in a dynamic change, many dealers out of business, many builders holding on by a string, customers are demanding more and in most cases dealers/builders cannot afford to offer more. :bigbird: |

I gotta say as a rank and file non racer member of the lurker community here on OSO . I look to OSO for the great pics , stories, build projects and information about our sport . I think I speak for alot of members when I say enough is enough its like OSO has turned into a bunch of wash women , keyboard critics , and know it alls . If I wanted drama I would watch the Real house wives of NJ or talk to my wife . It gets to the point that I dont even want to post anything . Give the BS a rest
. |
You guys are all unbelievable!
Shogren - you wanted to just drop it and even went as far as deleting all of your posts on the last topic and yet here you are still talking about it! If you stop posting then in 2 days when this post falls of of page 2 of "new posts" it will be forgotten! In regards to the bashing and using the forum as a way to do this....well guess what, welcome to the digital age! The main purpose of this forum is sharing of information, whether certain people feel it's good or bad tough $hit! If your going to be a member of this forum and a dealer in the industry you have to take the good with the bad! I am sure if the post was about a fantastic experience the buyer had had with a dealer then the discussion would go on for pages and pages and the post would probably have never been closed! Truly drop it and move on!! |

Yes the bashing needs to stop.
For most of us here, boating is an escape from our own lines of work that cause stress and OSO is a land-locked boater's "fantasy league" for all things marine. As for the digital age, it presents one more "filter" that can mask truth, cause misunderstanding, and seemingly remove any accountability for one's words or actions. Try to imagine OSO as a big room where we are all face-to-face and in person interacting. Also, the truth about every comment made to each other is announced immediately after it is said if it does not agree with the original statement. How much bashing do you think would go on in this big room ? |

"mob mentality" is always a real concern with forums.
I thoughT the shogren topic was a bit sudden and mostly un called for. I think the outerlimits topic is a topic that is discussed all the time with various companies being the topic/ complaint (TS design) and that thread only really had one person saying something that was preceaved negative, and I didn't even read the other thread. With the whole CS/serious thing I think a lot of people are pissy and edgy. What'cha gonna do? I can tell you this; most in the industry lurk on here, even people you wouldn't think...you'd be suprised. And most of them would rather not have direct contact via computer with the mob mentality, "nitwits", know it alls and "keyboard cowboys". Doesn't matter if there's drama or not IMHO. |
I've stayed pretty much away from OSO general discussion for several months, and am laughing that this is the first thread I pick out and read. Guess I will go away for another 6 months....
