Ft. Myers Boat Races
 

Is anyone from OSO going to the Ft. Myers Boat Races...and if so, is anyone getting together for cocktails, after the daily events?
Also, there was a boat show last yr...Are they doing that again this yr.?

We'll be there if we don't go to Skaterfest.... still debating....prob end up flipping a coin... although an offer to ride in that thunder may help us decide. :D :D

I'm kinda in the same boat..my bro lives in Cape Coral and wants me to come boating with him for the race...still not sure...

Keep an eye out for a 24' white & purple V with twin O/B's..."Lunatic Fringe"...I'll post if I'm going...love to meet some more OSO people!

So who would be up for a run to Cabbage Key or Barnicle Bills for a bite and a refreshment. Tracy and I would be up for just stopping at Cayo Costa and hang out for the after noon. If the current isn't too strong you can beach your boat there. Off the stern when beached its almost 20' deep there. Or could go up the beach to Big Carlos Pass and do the same thing. Or hang out in front of the Lani Ki with all the other weekend boaters. Give some input if anybody wants to do anything.

All in all................you'll get better boat rides at Skater Fest....and learn more.............. At most races, the participants "don't have time", ditto the officials et al............... Skaterfest is a relaxed environment with world class hardware and lots of racers, builders, and generally nice people whose only goal is to answer your questions and show you neat stuff.

Of course, I'm biased....but I did sleep through Ft Myers for the past five years......... and that was with the bigger (APBA) fleet;)

Also I will be doing the charity rides and I will be one of the pace boats.

I wish I could attend the APBA/Marathon race but Ft.Myers is my home town race. I live in Naples and I know the organizers and volunteers so I have to be here regardles if it is APBA or SBI.
All the racers in APBA that I had a chance to talk recently understant and support my decision.

T2x~ Isn't Skater Fest in New Jersey??? I heard the weather is kind of unpredictable in Jersey the month of May???

OFF SHORE POWER BOAT RACES
The Off Shore Power Boat Races will be on Fort Myers Beach May 16-19. The Parade will begin at 7pm on Thurday night. (The Matanzas Pass Sky Bridge will be closing at 6:30pm). In addition to the races (starting at 11am on both Saturday and Sunday) the Air Show will also take place on Saturday and Sunday. It is sure to be a fast paced and exciting weekend!

Last yr. Hooters held a bikini contest...haven't heard if they are doing one this yr.

The dry pits is where all of the boating action was at night... I remember how to get there...but, I don't remember the exact names of the hwy...was that 41????

T2x~ I went to add the televised date to the OSO calendar...and I clicked on the Skater Fest area...whoever put that website together, did a really good job!! It's cool to be able to put a face to a name...there were a couple of OSO members on there! I see you were all wearing your jackets...btw...the raindate for the Skater Fest is the following wknd. on the 25th!!!

The pictures were taken at the last Skaterfest which was in October last year...... and alot of people wore shorts...we did some boating too, as a matter of fact our last run down to LBI was in mid November..... in Jersey...in shorts...but it was a freak year.

As to unpredictable weather in May...... in Jersey..... we have indoor facilities as well as outdoor ...for unexpected storms (like you get in Florida......., but the norm is a high in the low 70's that time of year. The event is timed to allow people to integrate the knowledge learned into this year's boating season.

Whatever, I hope y'all have a great time ( and a safe one) no matter what even you choose

For the past 4-5 years I always took off that Friday.All or most of the racers are out testing, And its a ball running with them .We'll be out all day lets hook up for a drink.The mantanzas inn has great food.

Wish i could Dan, House hunting has got me sorts busy right now, so most playtimes are limited to local establishments for the time being!!! :D

The air show starts at 11 am to 1pm, boat race 1-2/230, both Sat and Sun.
The dry pits are on Sumerlein rd at the RV park behind the Hampton Inn, about 5 miles up from the Punta Rassa launch ramp. The course will center on the Diamond head resort and run about 2 miles each way, The bucket line is to the west of the course, I think I'll be at the south end near turn 2. Look for a Warlock. I'm sure I'll have my bimini up. Sat nite for a get together???

Well we're in Cape Coral now. Just waiting for Pat to get the pipes from Gil so he can get "Best Revenge" all put back together for me. Should have it before this weekend. If anybody is going out this weekend give us a shout and mayube we can hook up for a run some where. Otherwise we'll look for everyone on race weekend.....Oh BTW, my cell number is 608-207-8320.
