Default 272 Boss Purchase

Congratulations on your pending purchase. I bought a 1996 24 outlaw last year and the only advice I can give is what I didn't do that cost me BIG! Take your time. Definately try it out. Get it wet, look for leaks EVERYWHERE. Mine was leaking at the horn and center grab rail. Check for wood rot in cuddy and around bench seat area. Check all electronics. You didn't mention if it was MPI or carb. Mine was MPI and because I didn't try it on the water @ wot, just listened to it on muffs, I found that the high pressure pump in the vst was bad. Sorry to ramble, I just hate to see anyone else get taken. Mine is pretty much right now and I love it. Good Luck! Feel free to pm me with any other questions!

If you're going to trail the boat alot check the age of the trailer tires. If they're original replace them all. Every trailer I've ever had with ten yr old or more tires has blown at least a tire or two on long trips.

i sea trialed it today turns out it needs manifolds n risers, it had a leak so its time, although he said he changed them about 2 years ago, other then that everything seemed well.

Cool 272 boss

bsebesy is right on about the trailer. It is scary as hell to lose a tire with a 2 ton plus boat behind you, been there, done that. Happy to hear about the sea trial. It sounds like a good deal if everything else is ok. Maybe you can negotiate on the mans & risers. I hope you get some time with it this season. "Big blocks rock"

how can i tell it had a leak? umm when i was lokking around the engine while it was running i could hear the manifold leaking and i put my hand under the right side man and fellt it spitting hot air.. then i checked the top of the risers and one was hotter then the other, that usally alone is a sign it needs mans and risers, but the leak has to be repaired so it all has to come off, might as well change it out while im in there.

Throw on some EMI's if it isnt the gaskets.
Had a 96 272 with the 502mpi...66mph. It was a fun boat. Don't expect much out of it in anything more that a +2 foot chop though.

External leaks are usually from a bad gasket as is the hot air you felt. It is pretty normal to have one riser hotter than the other.
