hull stains

I just picked up some hull cleaner this weekend that ended up being nothing short of amazing. Its called PowerOne and its a simple wipe on wipe off product. Where i boat just a few days in the water leaves a rusty brown discoloration and up until now i was using SnoBowl with ok results but took some elbow grease. I just put this stuff on a rag and wiped it on a dry surface and the stains disappear. Anyone ever use this product?

wildthing357 07-26-2010 10:04 AM

Where did you get it from.

glassdave 07-26-2010 10:16 AM

one of the guys that races in Class 5 had a table set up and sells it, he's on here as Heater63. I'll try and find some contact info or website. I spent an entire day de-staining the bottom of the boat last time a had it in but with this stuff i can see that being cut down to about a half hour at most.

"Fountain of youth" product...

Half the cost of on/off and works as well or better... with significantly less fumes.

In fact, All of their products are awesome and environmentally friendly.

I assume it is a acid like Starbrite hull cleaner?

Not sure what it is but theres no odor and i used it with my bare hands. No acid smell or burn like with sno bowl (I'm done with that stuff).

yea the Starbrite is pretty strong acid,

areyouliving 07-26-2010 11:55 AM

I just pulled my boat out and the hull is nasty! I pressure washed it but that didn't help. I just ordered some of this stuff and I'll take before and after pics.

Catastrophe 07-26-2010 01:43 PM

Whatever you use be careful with outboards.

I have same problem as Dave with crap growin on hull after a few short days.

Last year my marina pulled the boat out and cleaned it using the same methods and chemicals that they use on all the boats there.

The 8 side saddles made of plastic on the lower units of the Verados turned almost white. Over $ 2000.00 damage.

JBoat 07-26-2010 01:54 PM

tried a few. On/off works very well. I can go 1/2 strength mixed down with water and still get goo results.

J.B. Marshall 07-26-2010 05:04 PM

I use the powder product called Crystal Lake and mix it in a spray tank, spray it on brush it and rinse. Best stuff I have ever used next to thew blue gel (FSR) but that had to be applied by hand.

glassdave 07-26-2010 05:50 PM

i just put this stuff on a terry cloth rag and wiped it on (dry surface), that was it. Seemed to go a real long way to.

heater63 07-27-2010 09:32 AM

Dave put it in a spray bottle.spray on dry boat, give it a minute or 2 and just spray off. This product has no acids and is also biodegradable. If anyone would like to try some of these products pm me or just give me a call 315-796-2598.Dave let us know how the other products work for you. Thanks!

modvp 07-27-2010 01:04 PM

I've had luck using "On And Off" by Marykate...you can buy it at West Marine.

heater63 07-27-2010 02:25 PM

if you can bring some to L.I.
I will buy a couple of bottles of that...

heater63 07-27-2010 02:58 PM

Gino, the stuff I'm gonna sell you makes 3" long barnacles grow on the bottom of your boat and it only happens when you hit 70mph.then maybe I will be able to catch you.lol Nah.just kidding! I will have some in L.I.

Airpacker 07-27-2010 03:53 PM

does power one remove all the wax? How is it on lime scale and limey water spots?

tuker10 07-27-2010 04:23 PM

I just bought some stuff from walmart, works really well but smells pretty bad.

I have the same issue as Dave with the orange bottom stain. The boat sits on a lift with an aluminum cradle, is powerone safe for aluminum or galvanized steel?

jmbtile 07-28-2010 01:01 AM

cleaner

this past weekend I used a product called Slimy Grimy which you mix a powder and appy with a sprayer. Got the brown scum off easily and quickly. Best part its bio degradable trailer and lift safe. I was on a raft under the lift with no issues

I use Iron Out. You can buy it at Home Depot in the plumbing section. Mix it with water in a pump sprayer and then spray it on. The stain drips right off.

Got my gallon this weekend. Stuff works great. Just like ON/OFF but without the harsh smell or burn. Also works great on all the stainless hardware on the transom...surface rust dripped off and left it nice and shiney.

Will it take black soot off of transom? Havn't found anything that will.

WOW! I ordered a bottle from Heater63 last week and just got a chance to use it this morning. I am ordering a gallon now. The pictures were taken this morning and it was dark with shadows, but hopefully you can make out the difference between on the left which was untreated and on the right which was sprayed on and hosed off. I had a scum line that I could not get out, and it has been driving me crazy. Have tried On & Off (the spray and the blue gel), the Leverage cleaners and countless others. This stuff is fantastic! I went over it again and rubbed with a terry cloth towel and that showed even better results. I then did both sides, the hull and transom --which did a great job removing the oil residue from my outboards. I have not seen my hull this white from any of the other products.

The only downside I found was it did not seem to like the diamond plate over my wheels. Did not effect any of the galvanized areas (I admit, I have gotten On & Off on galvanized before and watched it turn black), but you can see the run off line. I did start to clean it and it came off fine but who wants to cover anything when you are cleaning your boat?

I used half the bottle for the entire boat. I did it bare handed, did not have to hold my breath like with On & Off and even got some in my eyes thanks to a gust of wind when I was getting an awkward spot under the hull. I probably would still be washing the On & Off out of my eyes right now.

Very, very good product.

Heater63 your PM box is full...I'd love to try some of the Power One.

dbhammer 08-09-2010 01:38 PM

hey guys, how about hard water stains on painted hullsides? will this power one work, or will it destroy the finish and paint? there are so many minerals in the water here in the st. lawrence river and lake ontario.

heater63 08-10-2010 11:06 AM

The power1one works awesome on hard water stains. We also boat on the st.lawrence river and use the product all the time. Contact me a [email protected] and i will hook you up.

MANITIE 08-10-2010 11:17 AM

Update?

Dave, you mentioned you ordered some of the other Fountain of Youth products. Did you try the compound or polymer polish? Results?

Actually yea, i used the compound (Tottaly Buff) last week on the 38. The stuff is awesome, its a diminishing compound so as you work it it breaks down into a finer polish kinda stuff and produces a nice shine. Heres the kicker i did the entire boat (38 Donzi ZX) and used about ten ounces and never had to spur the pad a single time. That was a real surprise to me usually with good cutting compounds the pad (wool) requires constant cleaning. I gave the boat a good bath then went over it with their QuickShine. The boat has never looked better. QuickShine is another cool wipe on wipe off wax in their lineup, super easy on and off that ties the whole process together.

Havnt used the polymer stuff but i have a qt i will try soon. I bought a qt of every product they had and so far i have been impressed with everything. This hull stain remover really blows me away. I had the boat in for five days last weekend and had the usual brown ring we get from the water in this river. Had the boat on the trailer and it dried overnight took it to the shop in the morning and just sprayed it on with a squirt bottle. Whole process took maybe five minutes, use to take me several hours with SnowBowl.

FINALLY got some cooler temperatures and decided to try this Power One stuff that I ordered a few weeks ago and it worked great! I'm glad I bought a gallon instead of just a quart.

Nice when a product works as advertised! Thanks Heater63 :drink:

The detailers we use apply "snow-bowl" toilet bowl cleaner and it does the same thing... for a lot less $$
