Looking forward to seeing this, http://www.boats.com/boat-content/20...engine-coming/.

:worthless_without_p Great report and info as always! This one is so early that they haven't taken pictures, and if they had the thing would be missing a bunch of parts. Checking back with Mike D. at Sterling next week. I'll ask for pics ... and he'll laugh at me. Thanks for the kind words. |
Longevity @ 1700hp?
|
The 1550 was good for one race in Bud Select vs. Gieco in St Clair a few years ago. By the end of the race you could tell it was down on power. In a poker run boat, it would have to be watched carefully and probably torn down at the end of each season.

Dyno testing this week,
been wondering why I dropped our twin turbo engines off at skater awhile back and they are not in the boat yet... they are at sterling being dynoed this week? |
What's the life expectancy for the drives?
|
I thought the whole thing with the Merc package is 200 hour usage between services. That's worth a lot more to most people than an extra 350hp and 20 hour service intervals. Plus the M8 drive is designed to handle the extra torque of that new motor. . .
|
I'm interested to see the pricing on them if they are going to be a lot less then Mercs. I wonder if they will have the same warranty as Merc or the normal waranty of a big HP motor?

I believe Bob's new boat is using BPM surface drives - not the #6's. Accordingly, there shouldn't be any drive problems associated with the increased horsepower.

Any updates?

[QUOTE=Rik;3180974]That they won't!! :)[/QUOT
The fist thing I was thinking was how perfect these motors would be mated to some Arnesons. Forget the #6's. Darrell |

My question is...How long does Sterling dyno the engines? I understand engine pulls on the dyno for max horsepower and torque but, do they run the engine at 1/2 or 3/4 throttle for an hour? 2 hours? 12 hours? to see the real time longevity of this expensive engine that they are about to release to the public? They should have a dyno that is set up to do that.
