NXT Transmissions
Anyone had any issues with Mercury's NXT transmissions?
|
No issues for me at all although I believe the early Fountains had some issues; changed the lowers to 6's to address the stern lift? Shogren can tell you.
You can also do a search of this forum as this has been a topic in the past. |
Fountain at the time was the only one authurized by Mercury to marry the NXT to the #6 Stearn lift was one issue also stability at high speed .
makes for a awesome package no trans issues that I know of! |
130 hrs. No problems with mine. My motors are stock 700's though.
|
Scott Porter from Formula told me they had some issues in the 382/700's a couple years ago! Don't know details!

I have one that is clunking a little when going into reverse onthe port side. I change all fluids every 25 hours, and both sides look the same. The problem is recent and intermitent. I'm hoping it is some sort of adjustment. I have heard that this tranny is 6-7K. I was going to put up a thread but maybe someone can help me out here.

Nxt
I have one that needs the fluid changed quicker than the other and seems to catch slighting when shifting from in gear to neutral. Wondering if anyone has had issues with slipping, cooling, etc. Stock 700s as well and will stay that way. Thanks for comments.

A few of the boats in my area have had nxt tranny trouble. Stuck in gear, cases blown apart. Not knocking the product, just letting you know.

I do know that when shifting you should pause in neutral...seems to work better. The shift cables are stiff and can be tough to shift when cold. |
[QUOTE=omerta one;3174913]Curious...what brand boats?
All 42 fountains. |
I've seen and heard of a more than a few problems.
I know a guy that has gone through a few of them, but that's because I can't get it into his head that shifting at 2000 RPM is not the right approach to docking. |

More like $9K.
Its more or less a Bravo upper mounted sideways. There is a way to drop in real transmissions but it requires a bit of re-rigging. Has been done and problem solved. |
The earlier ones when the NXT's first came out were having tranny issues. That problem as been resolved. We've had to fix / send some back to mercury.
|
I just replaced one under warranty with 19 hrs that locked up. 2010 MTI with 700's.
|
I have 120 hrs on mine. No problems to speak of. As Omerta said, they shift WAY better when they are warmed up.

@ Phil's. He has been busy with some bigger stuff. I am sure it will be worth the wait.

I had one lock in forward on a 2007 Donzi ZR. Come to find out the nut that holds the selector inside the tranny backed out. Tech's call for loctite, non installed and mercury said oh well. The cost for a new tranny with labor is close to $11K with fluids and seals as well.
|
We have had several lock in gear and blown a couple of cases.
|
Mercury wouldn't even help me on the seal or fluids, what a why to stand behind your product after they made the mistake.

I know a few that have had problems and a few that seem to be bullet proof. It seems that certain hulls are more prevalent then others. I have heard that the x-dimension can have a huge effect but don't know for sure. Donzis and Cigarettes seem to be holding up better than Outerlimits from what we have seen in NJ and my understanding is that almost all the Fountains have #6 w/ the 700s.
