Check the label on the top of the motor, 87 octane is fine for most Mercruiser except their Blue motors.

What engine?????????

Merc black engines and non supercharged Merc Racing blue engines are fine on 87 octane. Running 87 non ethanol fuel will burn the cleanest and keep your transom from getting black.

never seen a race engine with burnt valves using 87/86! 502 mpi's/500hp and 525's all have made 5-7hp more on the dyno and have no deposits that are abnormal. they are ALWAYS running WOT too.!!!
