Can you give me an idea of how many boats have signed up and about what time would the 1st boat be approaching the East River ???

I know this would be crazy on my end, but I might make an attempt on Sat morning to try to get some coverage of this event and then travel back down to AC around mid afternoon.
Reach him by email: [email protected]

There has been about a dozen boats entered so far? Not quite sure..

Tim.....the best thing is to call Billy directly.

Yes....the water is getting big, no problem except for those navigators who can't figure out a compass reading when the boat is coming down off a small 8 footer.

It is times like this when we are really grateful that we don't have to do the Bahamas 500 that was actually 539 miles......Thank God, this is only a short 271 mile race.

So all the boats are arriving friday? I was down there today and saw nothing yet 'cept a few cigarette flags and a donzi flag.

OK,
Spoke with Billy today.
After giving this a great deal of thought and many scenarios of where to shoot from and still be able to cover my other event, it just seems it would be a logistical nightmare for me.

I had considered shooting from a spot I found in Brooklyn as the boats made their way up the East River, but Billy informed me the boats will be headed towards Montauk before heading back west. I took that into consideration and the fact that attrition might take a few boats out of the game and fall short of getting to my location.

The other scenario, I would leave for Long Island at 4 AM and be in the Pits 1st thing hoping to land a ride out on the Long Island Sound for the start.. Getting back in a timely manner to reach Atlantic City to cover the photo shoot I need to do there in the afternoon could be at risk should I hit traffic.

I even called upon a pilot I use to see if his plans had changed at all for Saturday and he told me he had a cancelation and if I needed him he was available should I choose to fly .

Another thought came to mind was to hire a great photographer I know out on Long Island to shoot the event for me, but without having a solid number of participants known, I can't be sure I could cover the expenses...

All I can do is hope the event goes off well this weekend and the event is on the schedule for next year. This way I can try to plan for it in advance.

Best of luck to all!

Enjoyed the small storm this evening!

Managed to climb over a broken tree on the way back to my Hotel.

Was watching the local news - Still love how the Yanks ramp it up!
