What to do?

Had an issue on the water with another boater (thank god no problems with my boat) this evening.
I had dinner at La Parma On The Bay (dockage availible for a few boats), and it was around 7 something. I have no running lights, so I went all the way to my home dock before it got dark.
As I was approaching my dock, I see a ski boat (had to be a 1990 or newer), single i/o, open bow (had to be 17ft or longer), at almost full throttle, pulling a skier. (the whole bay's speed limit is 5mph no wake.) He was WAY faster then 5mph, and was making LOTS of waves. Now, this is part of the bay where the harbor patrol dont always come down every single day. More residential, quieter area then the rest of the bay.
So, I see him and i stop in neutral, stand up and give him that "slow down" hand motion. He shoots past me (too close, also) and he is waving for me to back off im doing something important here....

I see that he's very "into" what he's doing and he doesnt slow down to stop pulling the skier.
So, he keeps on going down the bay where the bay gets smaller and smaller, more houses with docks (the boats on them are rocking like mad when the waves come).

I've gone up to other boaters and told them to slow down before, and they politely asked why (because they probaly didnt know) and they never went fast again. Thought the same would happen this time.

I continue cruising down where he headed when I see that the skier had fallen off and was swimming, so with that, I go alittle faster, hoping to catch him before the guys boat gets up and moving. I approach him and i turn off my engine and heres how the convorsation goes:

(make note that he was screaming his head off at me. This guy is just about middle aged, almost bald with a pot belly.)

him: what the fcks wrong with you, huh?!!!!

me: you gotta slow down!! you are going too fast, the bay is 5 mph no wake speed limit, i think i will call harbor patrol! watch it!

him: you know what?! get the fck outta here!!

me: no no, you cant be playing around down here at this time of night causing a wake and such...im calling harbor patrol..

him: get outta here motherfcker!!! i'll fckin slice you in half!! where do you live boy?! i'll find out where you live and fck you up, and fck up your goddamn boat!

me: hell no, i aint tellin you nothing! (starts engine)

(meanwhile, he is telling the skier to get onboard quickly, and he is turning on the engine in a hurry)

him: thats it motherfcker, you are gonna get it!

I push my throttle as far as it would go, and shoot back to the dock. I get to the dock, throw it in reverse to avoid hitting the other dock, turn the engine off, tie up the bow, and run for my life!
The ******* seemed to be speeding without the skier probaly to see what dock I went too. I tried to see what dock he went too, but he was gone and i was pissed that I didnt see where he went...(by that time it was dark)

problem is, i couldnt make out what manufacturer made the boat, couldnt see any boat registration numbers, but i did get a good look at the guy, and his passanger.

And in the process, he made me loose my boat keys ( i tripped while running away on the dock)
I hope i go down there tomorrow and find my boat safe and not damaged (like the fat chump said, he'd damage it)

So......what do i do now??

Thanks

Sam

Report it!

Catastrophe 08-31-2010 09:26 PM

Look for a sleeping bag and a pillow. You're sleeping on the boat.

PhantomChaos 08-31-2010 09:32 PM

Get an iPhone Record and photo it all.

newfountainguy 08-31-2010 09:34 PM

stop being the fckin cops. you told a guy to stop doing something...it could have gone either way. when you tell some one what to do you better be ready for the responce you got. I hate when the rich old up tight prick starts yelling at me cause my boat is to loud or that i'm going 47mph in a 45. get a fckin life buddy. if you dont want your boat getting banged around at the dock get a lift!

oh did i just say that. sorry!

texaschopper 08-31-2010 09:35 PM

dont worry about it...anyone that would act like is all talk trying you scare you from calling harbor patrol. He is passed out right now hugging his pillow. If you report him, you may be throwing fuel on a fire.

newfountainguy 08-31-2010 09:36 PM

You will find out in life that the loudmouths are just that mouths.Doubt he will come after you and while you did nothing wrong next time call the cops its there job let them do it.
It would be different if he was smacking some girl around then you have to make a decision. But for speeding in a no wake zone stay out of it

I live in a 5mph zone and people speed by all the time. You cant act like the police everytime you see people speeding. I would have gotten his reg numbers and reported it to bay constable. I have only once gotten pissed at someone speeding by. It was a guy on a 50 footer speeding through the 5mph, 50 yards from my house throwing a HUGE wake. My boat was tide up.... ended up throwing such a big wake one of the ropes put a huge stress crack near the cleat. I hopped on my boat, untied it and speed up to the guy and said "excuse me, hi. I live down there. Im not sure if you noticed but this is a 5mph zone. Your wake is destroying not only our bulkheads but also our tied up boats. Please slow down next time your passing through!" He apologized and went about his ways. You have to pick you battles wisley. It also was not wise to threaten the guy with police in your second line.

ciaoderhead 08-31-2010 09:51 PM

Grow a set a ball and stop playing cop. If you're gonna call someone out be ready for retaliation.,,,,, Just f'ing w/u. :lolhit:

I think I made a poor decision. What you said i agree with. If I see him tomorrow, i'll bring binoculars and take down the reg numbers.

problem is, he knows what I look like and the boat I drive, he skiis in the area all the time when the sun goes down and i hope he doesnt notice me next time.

Look man. Your young.... your 17. That man is over 30 years old. He has bigger problems. I promise you hes not thinking about that kid that waved him down and threatened him with water patrol. I bet he has debt up his *******, bank foreclosing on his house, duck tape holding his engine together, and small dick to boot. Getting revenge on you is on the bottom of his to do list.

What, they don't make an app for that? :drink::drink:

We have people drive past out place going way to fast all the time. It sucks but what you gona do. One of my neighbors was hucking huge rocks the other day it was so out of control. Last year a guy drove up on one of my neighbors docks! He just backed off and then kept driving down the river. We were like did that just happen?! Lucky for neighbor he was out on his boat at the time. People are tards out on the water.

NWPC 08-31-2010 11:43 PM

you need to pick your battles. if it is that huge then it is time to stand and man up.

don't worry, he knows what you look like, but he DOES NOT know that you don't remember what he looks like. I know how frustrating it is when you know you are right, yet the jerk thinks he is. Chances are he was pissed but when he calms down will notice the 5 MPH signs so you might not see him sking that area again. Also if he was pulling a salom skier chance are he was going in the mid 30's. Not that he is right but when a skiier is down the first priority is to pick them up, that is probably why he was so hot when you approached, however he is still wrong. Chitty drivers are everywhere, just yesterday we ran into two, we were to the right side of a cruiser that was cutting across our path, even though we had the right away they held their speed causing us to alter ours. Then later we were ideling out of the marina and only 30 sec from the entrance (which was not that wide) when a boat approaches from the wide open calm lake) he will not wait and pushes in ahead of us. everyone know how stupid they are:drink::p:D

Hey Little Buddy....

Bro, I read your post and read some of the reply's.
First, One of the guys is right. You don't want to be a rat but you also need to stand up for what you believe in. If you are willing to do that then be ready for what comes next. You are young and this was a good experience. It scared you. You can't threaten to call the cops on someone and then expect no trouble. That does not scare many people these days especially on the water. As for him coming back to get you, I doubt it. I for one do not stand by but I also don't threaten. I am a pretty big guy and was a bouncer for years. Do not threaten. Just point out it's a no wake zone and you don't think it's safe for his skier or others and when he mouths back to you or swears at you then write down the boat make and size and reg number and turn it in if you feel that strongly about it but don't go tell him your doing it. This lesson goes for the street or anywhere else. If you were in a car and said all that, they probably would have gotten out of the car and got you. Last but not least, get your butt in the gym and put some muscle on so when you need to you can back up your mouth when you need to. The one response is right, most people just try to intimidate you. But the bad ones will do worse. Get some nitrous for that little outboard so you can escape...LOL Be safe!

spk1 09-01-2010 12:27 AM

Hey Boss, your a minor, the guy may have been pissed, earlier and not realized it at the time, but I assure you he does now, hes knows the consequences and I doubt hes going to take the risk. If he does, let him know your a minor, and have his registration numbers at home, and that he can hurt you as bad as he wants, but its not going to hurt near as bad as being tyrones new g/f when the cops come knocking, He will see your point and may threaten with words, but he wont touch you. If he does touch you after that run like hell, the guys crazy and you cant fight crazy, you have to hit crazy with a crow bar. :coolcowboy:

capt2130 09-01-2010 04:59 AM

Lesson learned! We all have had experiences with idiots like that. Apparently the old guy wasn't taught manners or the law. Just move on and add a rearview mirror on that mini hawk. Just in case he comes sneaking up behind you.

AGREED. I doubt you will have to deal with the guy again. You will learn in life there are people who talk ****, and people who do ****. 90% of the time they are not the same package. Threating wont get you anywhere. state the facts in as little sentences as possible and go on your way. if you do choose to call the cops, i'm sure he still wont look for you.
Everyone gets their "punk card." dont let it get you down. If that is the mind set he has, hell get his too. dont worry about that

GoFastScott 09-01-2010 07:23 AM

As mentioned before you probably have nothing to worry about. Right now hes telling all his buddies how he scared the crap out of some kid who was trying to tell him what to do, and acting all big man on campus having a few beers. In the future, I would advise and not tell someone what to do, like "hey did you know this is a 5 mph zone, i dont want you to get busted because the cops are here all the time", this may work better than telling him he CANT do it. And as a backup do what I do, carry a Beretta 92 FS with you :lolhit:

Dave M 09-01-2010 08:10 AM

You need to get yourself a girl and forget about the idiotsl! :drink:

If you feel you really need to report him. Do so anonymously.

Wobble 09-01-2010 09:29 AM

Don't threaten to call the cops, just do it. No point getting into a confrontation that could go either way.

The issue has been solved... today my dad and I called the authorities. They are sending different patrol boats to be on the lookout for the guy and they can do a summons.
Next time i see him again, im picking up my radio and calling them vhf channal 16.

Now i can sit back and keep boating =)

richanton 09-02-2010 05:41 PM

I think your approach in that situation was all wrong, based on your re-telling of the conversation. Threatening to call the cops over nothing will tend to piss people off, I know that it would piss me off. Just enjoy your boat and stop worrying about things that don't matter in the grand scheme.

If you have a house with a dock you might have to get used to people going too fast in the no-wake, happens all the time. Unless someone is acting REALLY recklessly or damaging property, chasing them down and confronting them is silly. Especially if you are 17. It's like those people who freak out waving their arms at you because you are going by their house at 40mph when the speed limit is 25. You live on a main road, get over it.

That said, anybody who would threaten a 17 yr old kid is a real a**hole, and I wouldn't waste another minute even thinking about him.
