As tragic as this incident is, maybe the rest of us in the offshore community can learn a few things. First and foremost, remember that Don died doing something he truly loved. I can only hope for the same fate since my father died on his boat too. Second, remember what a great father he was to his son. How good (or great) of a father have you been to your kids? Have you taught them everything you can about safe high performance boating? Third, remember that our sport (or passion) is a dangerous one and never take safety for granted. Wear your kill switch and a PFD any time you’re running hard. (Maybe even every time you’re running period.) Once again, my condolences to his family and friends.

Damn, this is pretty much the worst news that I could have expected to hear about.

I have spent hours on the phone and emailing back and forth with Don about both his project and about Kryptonites in general. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. I never had the opportunity to meet him, and wish now that I had taken the time to drive up to Lake Seneca and ride alongside him. I know that he loved the water, and certainly loved going fast.

Rest easy brother.

Looks like they found Don's body. Such a tragic event. Frank, the driver, made it sound as if something mechanical went wrong.
