Default 81 38ft Scarab.

Looking at a 1981 38 ft Scarab has stock 454 truck motors in it but the rest of the boat is in good not great shape. Tailer is very nice. My Question is whats the going price on a boat like this ?????

$25-30K with 454 truck motors and trs drives. I like these old scarabs. I think they will stand the test of time. Problem is they are hard to get insurance for, which makes them harder to sell. A real sell it now price probobly closer to $20K, but IMO its worth atleast $30K.

Smokin deal for $12K IMO. And for that price, you don't really need insurance. Make sure you budget enough money to buy atleast one drive or engine rebuild or both. Its a boat, chit breaks all the time, might as well plan on it. $5K would be a good rainy day fund.

And if the transom has never been replaced go ahead and budget for that too.

Take you 12 thousand and buy a nice clean single engine 24 footer that will do 60 not 45 like that Scarab .The fuel , repairs , storage and a tow vehicle for that pig will make you wish you never took up boating.

The raised deck Scarabs are tough to get rid of but for 12K if its all there and turn key it doesnt sound like a bad deal, thats a lotta boat.
