It looks as if the 2011 Around Long Island New York race is going to be the only one that HORBA and NPBA will be putting on this year.
The planned race for Florida in November will NOT happen this year. With the low boat turnout for the Sunny Isles Bimini run, the people we were working with did not want to go ahead in this economy and spend the money needed to put this race on....Fort Lauderdale to Key West, will not happen in November as planned.
HOWEVER.......Everyone is invited to the Second Don Aronow Memorial Around Long Island Marathon on September 24th of this year. This story brings up the great story of how these races can be won by the most unsuspecting boats and crews.

Since we are trying to get this race off and running again, I thought this thread by Rich Luhrs would add to the understanding of the difference between onshore racing and offshore racing.
Neither is better than the other and real racers would race in an ash tray, but we are trying to get the off shore stuff started again for a whole new generation of racers who never have experienced it.
Now, if the manufacturers would step up and work together for a single class that they agree on an engine package, then it would really open up again. Reputations of boat companies that still exist today were made in off shore racing.....new ones can be made again today. Come and join the fun.
