Thinking about heading down to Miami for a long weekend this winter. Maybe even for the boat show. Can someone recommend a decent place to stay that is nice and clean but won't break the bank at the same time? Thanks

You would be much better off if you are trying to not break the bank by coming up to Lauderdale. Rates are at least 1/3 to 1/2 of South Beach at that time, and its only about a 1/2 drive or so. Check out the Harbor Beach Marriott or Sheraton Beach (used to be Yankee Clipper), but be warned, nothing will be cheap down here at that time of the year. If I remember correctly the Fountainbleu is like $750 + a night during season

I was thinking about going to the boat show, probably won't have time but I did find some Marriott's by the airport that were pretty cheap.Depends on what you want anything by the show is going to be big bucks. For $750.00 a night it better be in Maui.

biscayne bay marriott for the boat show, the rates might even still be reasonable right now, ride the shuttle to the collins show, and then take a $5-$10 cab ride to the heart of south beach, or just walk across the street and hang out at the fountain bleau pool.

Fair Wind hotel 10th & Collins. Older hotel, beds a little saggy but not bad. Open air restaurant and bar. Parking across the street. Reasonable rates. Convention shuttle two blocks away.

IIRC I paid somewhere around $150/night for the show but that was five years ago. Likely higher now.

Not looking for a $750/night place but not a dump either. Most of the places I've looked at on S. Beach look like these super modern, cold feeling places with all white rooms and furnature.

I like the Shelborne and the Essex House. Stayed in both and they are both great values for the price.

Book online with Hotels.com or one of the travel sites.

The Standard.... no one under 18 allowed... ;) get it, the view around the pool is worth it!

HTRDLNCN 09-20-2010 10:24 AM

You want to get one on the beach unless you like sitting in bumper to bumper traffic everytime you drive to south beach...
The extra money is worth it to not deal with traffic in Miami.

I'm in Miami like once a month and have stayed at most of the hotels, my new Favorite is the Mondrian- great location, on the bay, lots of eye candy, reasonably priced. I also like The Sanctuary.
