We were looking at Bullets last year- 'klaw' from the board gave us our first ride and up-close look at one. Hopefully he will jump in on your thread. His boat does 64 with 454 Mags (365hp)-terrific Cig and a great guy!!
They have a big cabin, and a few we looked at including klaws' had been updated to Gaffrigs including new panel. The notched transom does make a difference in speed and handling. Narrow your search to later models. The 2" shorter Imco does make a pretty big difference in top speed as well, but as with all boats with raised 'x', there are sacrifices at other speeds, including cruise and planing. It is true that the boat is heavy and takes big power to go fast, but it has great rough water capability that will allow it to pass up a lot of other boats when it gets snotty. It is unfortunate we didn't come up with one at the right price with the right power- I'd still own one if the right one came along. They didn't make a lot of 'em, and their owners tend to either keep them or ask top dollar when they sell. I would opt for normally aspirated 540's on 1" shorter Imco's- built correctly they would be more reliable than supercharged engines and could get you the speeds you desire. Make sure to get a survey done- some of the earlier years had a few issues with aft stringers and lower portions of the transom. Good Luck on your search! |
