There werent big enough engines to push these boats fast early on.
We had a 38magnum flybridge in 1976-1980 w/ blueprinted 454s on V drives. Cruised 23-24 knots.
Now these 53s can hit 60 w/ twin 1000hp+ diesels, or turbines.

I reallty like the layout on the 38. Very user friendly.
The larger 40-53 were more euro cool.
Any of these will get going w/ ASDs and BIG Azz power.
And if you look for a 38, you wont fit big power w/ a full cockpit. You'll need one w/ a sunpad and engine hatch under.

Thank you. I agree, you would need monster motors to make a 53 hit those speeds. The 38 is an entirely different boat in my eyes. Very open and much different accomodations.

I don't recall them being that slow, I (Thought) I recalled the 53's running in the 50's, the 63's running in the 60's.....Maybe not....I bet that 38 w/454's was a huge gas hog....

Gas Hog... you got that right... it was disgusting.
I can get accurate numbers tomorrow.
The 53s did run in the 50s, but not till when big power was being built. think how heavy they are, and the power it'd need to run... beamy too.
I was on the 1st 53 built for its 2nd run. Seemed fast for a big boat, but it was runninig low 30s, stripped. No cabin, no liner, no engine hatches... nothing.

It is pretty. Would show better w/ the canvas folded up.
What's it run w/ 350hp diesels?

My cousin has a 38 Magnum sportdeck with triple 300hp Mercruiser diesels (IH/Ford powerstrokes) and Diesel Bravo drives, goes 62 top end and will plane on just the center engine and gets decent mpg for what it is. Oh yeah flat floor and engines fit just fine under it..

Triples in a 38? I don't think I've seen that before. Any pictures you could share?

This is one of my concerns.

And, when making a turn, its like driving a bus. The boat was fast for a Magnum, but I just wasn't ready for this type of boat.
