CONGRATULATIONS, HAGGIN!

You finally did it. It's been a long time coming and I know that it wasn't an easy decision for many reasons. Mostly because you care about the sport and so many of the people you've met along the way.

You've helped change and promote offshore racing in a BIG way and left a mark that nobody will ever forget. I hope that you finally get some peace of mind and remember what you always told me now that "it's your time to dance!"

I can personally say that because of you - I've had the ride of my life and I know that can and will be said by many, many others!

Thank you and BIG SMILES always!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't see this coming, I never met Mr. Haggin but had seen him many times at the races and read many great comments by others about him. All I can say is, that Mr. John Haggin will be missed by all and he will always be remembered for what he brought to the Sport of Offshore Powerboat Racing. Team Leader, innovator, philanthropist to the sport of Offshore Powerboat Racing, a down to earth guy and a Gentleman.

The Members of the "Ontario Offshore Powerboat Association" wish Mr. John Haggin all the best in his retirement and thank you for your support of the sport and all the Memories.

DaveP 10-18-2010 08:18 AM

John will now join the ranks of Rocky Aoki, Al Copeland, Forrest Barber, Paul & Mark Nemschoff, Matt Alcone, Dave Scott and a few others. All of them brought much needed attention to offshore racing thanks to their passion for the sport and their large budgets to fund their teams.

Thanks John for your generosity to Shore Dreams For Kids and best of luck to Scotty & Marc in marching forward with the team in 2011!

KiloKat 10-18-2010 08:27 AM

Offshore racing will never be the same without Haggin and Dave Scott. :( :(

Catmando 10-18-2010 12:24 PM

Matt you misspelled Granet's first name...

Damn, Cat, just when I'm ready to tell you that you're wrong as I'm looking at my blog on speedonthewater.com, where it is spelled correctly as Marc, I got to the link I provided, which comes from Boatermouth.com, where it is spelled March.

If you're bored out of your mind, go check it out.

Short story: Boatermouth is being redesigned and for some reason is not picking up corrections from the sites/blog that feed it. (I actually caught my typoe before it went live last night and corrected it.) My web guy is on it and it should be corrected in the next hour.

In the meantime, sorry Marc.

I was just thinking that. What a huge void, and nearly impossible two pairs of shoes to fill. http://smiliesftw.com/x/crybabycomfort.gif

I thought this was funny:

(AMF reportedly stands for "American Made Fun")

I had always thought it was, "Adios, MotherFcker.....", like the shot http://smiliesftw.com/x/spit.gif :drink:

Good luck with the ponies John! :coolcowboy:

I think yer right, and from what I always heard around the pits it was America Moving Forward if you needed to tone it down for whatever reason.

MiniHawk 10-18-2010 02:40 PM

Whats Haggin gonna do now? No more boats at all?

Jason Johnson 10-18-2010 03:18 PM

Hope the party was a great one Haggin! Everyone at Powerboat is going to miss seeing you at the races. Best of luck

Panther 10-18-2010 04:23 PM

Way to go Haggin!!! Thanks for your friendly conversations and taking care of me when ever I was walking the pits. Patchogue was my favorite time!

Always knew it would happen some day.

There may have been a few reasons to tone it down now and then, but as Haggin says, "there's nothing worse than being boring!" I'm sure I'm not the only one who can say that he was certainly NEVER BORING!!!

America Moving Forward, Adios, My Friend and the obvious are correct!

akaboatman 10-18-2010 04:41 PM

Thanks Mr. Haggin We really enjoyed the races an party. We will miss you in this sport. Thanks to all the racers for a wonderful weekend. We had a blast. Artie

Can't speak for John about his plans but I would imagine that he will spend more time with his horse ventures. His family has been into horses for hundreds of years.

For a great bio:

Thanks John......I can just see those horse people watching you trot around in those shorts and boots that you have made into icons.

Best of luck in the future.

For the sake of propriety and appearances, there were always two versions. Mr. Haggin told me both the first time I interviewed him seven years ago. For obvious reasons, "American Made Fun" is the only one I have ever been able to use in print or online. :cool-smiley-011:

"America Moving Forward" was(and is)for public consumption...

Would you care to see my notes from the original interview seven years ago? (I doubt I still have them.) Trust me, that's what he told me back then. If it evolved into something else, and it did, so be it. But that's what it was initially. Ask him.

John has it in his blood for BIG HORSE POWER !
Other than the thoroughbreds I bet he would venture into something else with TV exposure and a lot of HP !

Could he be heading to Drag Racing ? (Nothing to do with Key West BTW) They have Turbines ! :drink:

Or perhaps he will go for all of the noise and go build a Monster Truck or something ?

The Sprint Boats in New Zealand was short lived as exciting as it seemed to many of us...

Whatever it may be, I wish you the best John !

I am sure this is not the last we see of you !!! :drink:

I have to admit, them big horses are amazing !

The day of BIG BROWN's last race. # 4 going out with another WIN !
