600 on the clock. Don't know if it will show up but here's the listing: http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/boa/5938083468.html

Yeah, that's my concern. I don't know how they're built or where they develop problems. It's a 5.0 with a Merc. Inexpensive runabout...trying to get She Who Must Be Obeyed interested in boats and figured this would be a good place to start. Me? Born and raised on water...

Looks like a nice, well cared for boat. I can't tell for certain from the photos but it might be an Alpha drive, not a bravo but with a 305 small block in that small a boat the Alpha would be fine.

600 hours is getting up there. If the motor has had good regular maintenance it should have a lot of life left in it.

There is no way that is a 65 MPH boat though. It may indicate that on the dashboard "wishometer" but GPS will probably show it to be high 50's, maybe 60. That is still plenty fast in a small boat like that.

The asking price is cheap enough if the boat checks out (ask for maintenance records) and if you can get it for under $8K you couldn't get hurt too badly on it. You can rebuild a 305 pretty cheaply although if the motor ever went I'd throw in a hot rodded 350 or 383 stroker! :D

Definitely an Alpha boat. I had a buddy that went 1,200 hours in a 19' boat on a 5.0/Alpha and it was still going strong when he sold it. Didn't touch a drop of oil but had lost a bit of top end (valve job probably would have brought the performance right back).

I agree with you entirely. I don't know much about Alpha's...or outdrives in general...but the little 305 is as common as lawn mowers. 600 hours...I can live with that. I've got a tractor with 4400 on it.

I'm with on the wishometer, too. No way it'll make that speed but I'd be happy at 50. Most of the time it'll be ordinary cruise speeds. I'm kinda looking at it to boat with a pal of mine that has a Donzi Sweet Sixteen. this would be a decent match to it. Same motor/outdrive. He taps out at 57 by the GPS but in any kind of water his butt gives out before the throttle. A 383 would be a riot...probably tear the lower unit off the boat.

I got nothing against Baja, but if I was gonna buy a $8-9k sub-20ft boat to run, this would be where I looked first. 24* deadrise, 350 (vs the 5.0MPI), classic lines, and no pastel (dated) colors.

I'd have to agree with this. I think it is a better boat.

I had an 06 405 Performance for 3 years then purchased an 07 last year. I bought another 405 because I loved everything it did and the way it looks. No problems anywhere that I was not able to take care of and improve on.

The only problem with with power play to Baja is the 13year difference and the Baja is still cheaper. I hate to say it but the power play is over priced. It's a 5,000. Boat
