Drug boat

Why is it when people ask you what kind of boat you have and you tell them a "baja" go fast type. And they automatically respond with oh the drug dealer type.:bsflag:

pokey27 10-27-2010 09:46 AM

:lolhit: Cuz they watch to much TV Right

Keith Atlanta 10-27-2010 09:48 AM

..thats a compliment. They are comparing you to Crockett.

BONDO10 10-27-2010 09:54 AM

They are not that far of. We don't run drugs, but we should be on drugs for having these foolish things.:party-smiley-004:

glassdave 10-27-2010 10:04 AM

well i dont know . . . . boating is kinda like crack . . .

pokey27 10-27-2010 10:06 AM

Need to run drugs to pay for the up keep right :evilb:

1MOSES1 10-27-2010 10:08 AM

i get the same reaction..."are you running drugs from colombia"...no, should i start? hahaha

In2Deep 10-27-2010 10:41 AM

Must be an East Coast thing. Down here, it's oil dealing, cattle ranching, or techpreneurship.

mikes280 10-27-2010 10:43 AM

i get, oh a cigar boat

Wildman_grafix 10-27-2010 10:44 AM

Because they are behind the times, don't they know that drug dealers use subs now?:drink:

314joey 10-27-2010 10:53 AM

Yea, who could afford both drugs and a boat, my boat gets me high enough anyway, don't need or want the other stuff, OK maybe a few beers. :ernaehrung004:

The people that don't know boats (that isn't many) around here call them Miami Vice type boats, but I ain't Crockett or Tubbs.

The best is when people ask me if I have a cabin and I tell them no. Then they ask what is the area under the deck for? I point and say "See the two deck hatches, they are exactly the right size to fit 10 kilo size bales of weed." That usually satisfies their curiosity!

excatley, it could be a bayliner with thru hull exhaust and most people gonna call it a cigarette boat:lolhit::eek:

CigDaze 10-27-2010 11:12 AM

Well, it's no secret that back when - before people realized how much fun it is going fast in boats - they were a primary utilitarian vehicle used in the transport of drugs.

Wikipedia would agree:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go-fast_boat

And it's no secret, that Don himself was known to build boats for those in the business.

And there's certainly no shortage of news stories fueling the fascination:
http://www.ibinews.com/ibinews/newsd...39ibinews.html

But for those ignoramuses who actually believe that (1) all folks with go-fasts are using them for smuggling drugs, or (2) that they actually think it's even mildly humorous to suggest such in a vein attempt to be funny, we must take pity on them as they are most assuredly stuck in the Miami Vice era of American pop culture, or are likely bobbing around in the breeze sailing aimlessly into our way while offering us the #1 salute.

Big Time 10-27-2010 11:14 AM

Wait, so you guys DON'T run drugs with your boats?

...oh, and the funny part is the police still perpetuate that stereotype. Kenny C. who owns the all black donzi from the recent Miami Vice movie gets pulled over and searched all the time....even when he is just towing the boat!! Police said the boat looked like it was leaning one way on the trailer, meaning it had "something" in it causing it to do that....

Anyone else ever been "suspected" by the police in the same way?

Can't say I ever have. Of course, most of the local cops and CG have been out with me at one time or another, so that helps.

If I was running drug's I'd own something a lot nicer than a baja !!!! OL , Skater , MTI . DCB :drink::drink:

thats odd because over here in CT...the police, coast guard, and DEP all respect the go-fast boats...i havent heard anyone having a problem in this area.

maybe they are nice because they know they cant catch them once they are in LI Sound waters...lol

One day at launch while hanging fenders and lines on Cigrocket's 35 Mistress a couple who obviously hugged trees as a hobby asked how we could afford to own and run such a boat.
I told them straight faced we are drug dealers.
They seemed completely content with that answer as if I had confirmed their suspicions as they munched on their trail mix.

I have met quite a few pharmaceutical reps who boat.....they are the "legit" drug dealers.

I had a woman who couldnt wait for me to move , at the Old saybrook dock almost hit my boat with her whaler, After I told her to be careful she told me this was her small boat she owned a cabin cruiser. (snotty as hell)

So I said "well then you should kow better!"

Then she says so what do you do for a living to afford such an extravagant boat?

I told her straight faced as hell "I sell CRACK!"

As she sped away in her whaler, the woman standing behind me on the dock burst out laughing and said "that was such a SWEET answer."

My wife wasnt amused

When I bought by first go fast in Florida 20 years ago I thought I would get stopped frequently by one of the many marine policing agencies. Not so. I was once stopped by the DEA running thru the Keys in the mid 90's and then 2 years ago by the local Marco Island police boat where the cop actually apologized for stopping me but said they had orders to check all boats coming in for human smugglers. In May and June of this year when I went down into the Caribbean I had to check in with Customs at Bahamas, T & C, DR, PR, USVI, and BVI and the only jurisdiction to actually come aboard the boat and do a search was Dominican Republic. When going into Cuba last year some will remember that we were stopped by their Coast Guard with guns on us, escorted in and searched including putting a drug dog on the boat. Considering all the hours I have logged in southern waters that is not bad at all. :)

Actually I have the exact opposite problem. People think I am the police.
Was on some water last year in Fla. for first time and wasnt sure where my destination was. Passed a boat going the other way. Spun around and caught up to him to ask directions.

He went to hand us his paperwork. It was funny.

That's funny Alec...I could see that happening as your boat is very "official" looking.

That drug label is completely regional. We run moonshine with 'em in the Ozarks. :coolcowboy:
