For my snowmobile friends here is some acceleration

Here is a clip I found from the World Series of Ice Drags. My sled is at the 2:30 mark. Major wheelie problem but when it would leave right it would run the 1/8th mile in the 4.80s around 135-137mph. That is running 0-100 in around 3 seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJg41o3AZKo

Here is probably one of the 2 if not the fastest guys in the world. 4.43 at 152mph. Fricking sick!!!! Check out the 1:05 and 2:45 mark in the video. Two different views of the same pass.

carter38 12-01-2010 11:59 PM

Wow I'm glad it don't snow that much in Oklahoma I'd have to have one.

sommerfliesby 12-02-2010 05:47 AM

I'd say you are right on with the "major wheelie problem." Damn dude...good thing you lifted that thumb when you did!

Got all my sleds dialed and ready for a run up to the Yoop the day after Christmas! Can't WAIT.

Gladhe8er 12-02-2010 08:18 AM

I've spent the last 3 weekends getting mine all ready for the season. Swapped out some suspension parts, changed worn/bent studs, did a thorough cleaning, replaced some trailer parts etc...

Now we need some snow!

SHAWN DAVIS 12-02-2010 08:56 AM

A 4.43 lap on ice is incredible

SHAWN DAVIS 12-02-2010 10:19 AM

Just for a reference, a pro stock car, with 1350 hp, can run a 660" lap around a 4.25-4.30

glassdave 12-02-2010 10:44 AM

On good ice I will 60' 1 teens all day with a best of 1.11 the guys running in the 4.50s are 60' in the 1.0s!

SHAWN DAVIS 12-02-2010 12:54 PM

Thats amazing
My car will 60' .960 and 660" 3.80's, takes close to 3000 hp at 2400 lbs to get that done on asphalt. I cant imagine hooking up on the ice like that

JIMKID Motorsports 12-02-2010 12:56 PM

and the pro stocks are making about 1400 hp the sleds are about 300 hp and hooking up on ice they are getting it done dude

snopro13 12-02-2010 01:12 PM

That brought back a lot of memories. I raced MSDRA back in the 80's and 90's. Ice and grass we did pretty good, won more than I lost..

Brad Zastrow 12-02-2010 01:13 PM

One thing many people do not realize is how quick even a stock snowmobile really is. In the 1/4 mile on aspalt they kill the fast motorcycles. Here a sled versus drag car.

How about the Hayabusa vs a sled

The new turbo 4 stroke sleds are under 10 sec stock.

mine n/a is around 280
with a 75 HP shot of n2o. The guys in the 4.50s are just over 500 HP. Some are 4 stroke turbo and a 1500 cc 4 cyl on the spray. Hardest part is grabbing the belt and getting them to 60' without standing them up or spinning wildly. Fun knowing that my sled out accelerates a million dollar Buggatti lol

Drock78 12-02-2010 03:12 PM

sre...did big jim build your sled? i used to run with those guys on the ice. of course my was a bit slower than the ones he builds. the tar sleds he builds are running mid 7s in the 1/4mi. Penny up boys...and you can own one of these rocket ships for around $40,000

Drock78 12-02-2010 03:27 PM

Mark Herek built my motor along with Pro Outlaws. He is running 60s. PAP and A & S are are the top of the game right now running 50s Nd some 40s. I expect to see one of them run an low 4.30 this year in the upper 150 mph range. That is flying in 660'!

I thought that sled looked familiar. I grew up one house away from him on wolverine lake. Our fathers raced drag boats together. Todd actually drove my dads drag boat and later worked on the crew for our grand prix hydroplane. Small world!

Thanks. Run a best of 4.81 at 138mph. I will try and post a pic later. Ed aS just way to short for the power I had in it hence the hard time getting it to leave the line.

Thanks Jim!

My grandfathers house was to the left of Harry's down the long drive. I remember plowing a strip right off Harry's yard right out into the lake for Tood to run some 60' passes. Neighbors must have loved all the racers in the area. Between Harry's fuel boat, Butch Marriots, and my dad's plus all the drag sleds in the winter, there was always plenty of noise in the area. Never forget when we put my dad's hydro on the lake. That went over real well with the local authorities.

I am around the corner from your shop. I am in Canton. We should meet up over a beer one day and swap some old stories.
