This is a very interesting thread. $500 may be steep for some but not for others. Billy has to make a profit. This is his living. I could not even phathom how much it costs and how much he has to pay upfront before the event and before he begins to receive monies from the entrants. Bashing the expenses and such is not really productive. There are LOTS of fun runs and gathering throughout the NE for all to enjoy. The idea is, pick the runs that fit your budget and make the most of them. There doesn't have to be 200 boats to have fun. Just good people and commraderrie and you can have an equally good time.

We will be doing the NYC run this year as well as Abay and some NJPPC events and a few others here and there. We will be stopping by the raft up party and hanging for a while with fellow OSO'ers. Then pick it back up again. Anyone that is at the Liberty Landing Marina come and say HI!

Have a great time and see you on the water!

DaveP , The truth is the truth! I couldn't resist! It was my 1st year in Poker Running and I wasn't sure how I was going to be accepted having only a 13 ft Mini-Offshore boat. After running Barnegat Bay/Atlantic Ocean Poker Run with NJPPC I could see no one snubbed there noses and I wasn't pushed away for the size of the boat. I appreciated that and enjoyed the large welcome back party afterwards. Greg Mazzo? Am I still his hero??? It will be even nicer now that I stepped up to the plate and got the 28. There may be a time here or there I'll bring the 13 back out. At100plus? Was your boat white and on the Mullica headed back towards Sweetwater Casino? I may have seen it one day in a back yard. A good time to hook up would be June 1st & 2nd at Trumps Marina That is NJPPC's !st Poker Run. I plan on having the 28 with me for that run. It has a full suite compared to the 13 to sleep in...

at100plus,
nice superboat!
I'm planning on going with my 16 donzi so a 21 is
not small at all. and if sharkey is there with his bullet i won't be the smallest either,
I would imagine you could launch some where in Piermont for the TZ run that's just south of the bridge. I'm thinking stony point for me I'm in orange county or maybe gullies. I don't know of any marinas south of there, edgewater had a few but there all condos or malls now

but I think the nyc run is june 15 the sat of the donzi get together
in lake george is so I'm out . if it is on another date then I'm in

I'm with you Chris. The money won't break me but....Went to the NYC event in 1999, (brother paid for the crew) Had a blast , it was our first poker run ever. Big water, big boats, food SUCKED!! The run was the best part, (in a 28 Apache w/twin 600 HP) running 70 - 85 most of the way! We had an unfortunate accident after it was all over so we missed the party afterwards. So last year I went up with my brother in law's in a 25 Baja. Granted he paid for the entry fee, but once again the food sucked and Jersey City is not a nice town too get lost in looking for you're Hotel. Run was good but the party afterwards sucked...are hot dogs supposed to be grey? and hamburgers supposed to be the consistency of a hockey puck? I'm entering in the Thunder on the Bay run in june. The price is up there but you get food at some very good restuarants, The Nauti Goose , Annies, Red Eyes, plus an open bar...YES........OPEN BAR! I'm in. This run looks alot better than the others. We'll see!!!! Hope too see some OSO members thier!!!

Default NJPPC WON ME OVER

Here is a short story on how I got involved, I don't own a big boat and I am not made of big money. I was involved with helping out with Offshore racing, I was thinking about doing a Poker Run but always thought that paying $500 to 600 for a run was nuts! One day a freind (Ron P) asked me if I could help out at the NJPPC radar shoot out? We did and what a blast we had! My wife and I agreed, we had such a good time we figure will help out next year!
We were going out that night to my couisins house (by boat) when we were going down the lagoon to his house, These people that I didn't really know started yelling at me to come over and dock! They wouldn't take No for an answer.
Thats when I met Dave P his wife, Scott B and some other folks from the NJPPC. They treated us like they knew us for ever! We had a few drinks, they told us about the Poker Run and we agreed, We must do this.
I am now a hooked line and sinker quote Poker Runner!
I have been on a lot of poker runs and yes all over the East Coast! From NJ to Canada, Kentucky to Florida. I have been on NY run and 1000 Islands run, and let me tell you that 1000 Islands is the King of all Poker Runs bar none!
But if you want pure quality at a price that can't be beat by anyone then you should try a NJPPC poker Run! The most expensive run is Atlantic City, This run is still cheaper then most of the runs around! But here is what is invloved Included in the price
1) great full buffet breakfast (no sticky doughnuts here)
2) Boat slip at Trumps Marina (Over night )
3) Motel room
4) Great dinner and party ( No hamburgers here)
5) Get to party with great people!
6) 2 card hands
7) Next morning breakfast
And as Dave P says we go first class are we don"t go at all!

Now for half the price of Atlantic City is our Barnegat bay Philly and our Roar at the shore run. These are one day runs and the 1st class meals are still involved.
Dave and the club made a believer out of me !
Thanks NJPPC

Frank, They made a believer out of me too. Now I'm infected for life. For those of you down in the Chesapeake Bay area, you should look into Chesapeake Bay Powerboat Association . They too seem to put on a real nice event. I'm hoping one day to get their myself. Seems like a great group down there as well.
