Prelubrication system...
 

I just got my "Powerboat" issue for this month and I saw an ad for a prelubrication system called "master lube." I called and talked to them about my needs and it sounded good. I'm just curious if anyone has purchased this system and how it works or if anyone has any comments about what they've heard?

I'm about to inquire about drive showers and shazamm a post appears. Next I start wondering about mud flaps to protect the trailer and voila, enough info to choke a horse. So today I start thinking about a prelube system, ......and here's the thread! How am I supposed to pad my post count if everyone keeps beating me to it???

Most evidence I've read suggests that up to 90% of engine wear occurs during startup. If this is true, a prelube system has got to help. Then I read threads about guys who have taken down engines with 500 hours on them and the bearings are tight as new. Guess we need to ask those guys if they are using prelube!

Theoritically it's a great idea- If I had expensive engines that had to spin over a bunch before they lit off I would definately make the investment.

My efi engine lights right off every time so it's hard to justify the benenfit. good luck!:D

Did you happen to see the write up for K&N Oil filters that have some sort of valve in them that holds the oil in and kind of does the same thing?

i have been running one on my engine for a couple of years. with a flip of a switch i have about 40 pounds of presure before i start the boat. with the investment that i put into the engine a few hundred dollars more wouldnt hurt especially if it does what they claim. i have not had the motor apart yet.

I also read about the K&N filter with the valve. If it works as advertised it should help.

Does anyone know if using after market filters/oil will void the warranty on the hp500? What about drive oil, if you switch to synthetic will it void the warranty on the xr's?. I am buying a new boat with 5 year warranties on the motors and drives and am wondering.:cool:

Someone told me that if you do use synthetic lube in the drive it could technically void the warentee. I am not certian, but I would call Mercury racing to find out for sure.:confused:
