This is a good thread. What about tweaking that list for a boat that'll have a porti potty for momma, and a small cabin for the kid? Which one will handle rough water the best? What'll handle the most power?

I had a Donzi 22 Classic with 600hp and it was a handful past 75mph. 86 was the best I got on GPS and that round keel was NOT stable. And lack of cabin/porti-potty forced it's sale after I got married.

But I need something I can pull with my 4runner V8 (under 7,300lbs total) counting trailer, gas, beverage coolers, etc. And it'll need to handle the Potomac River, Lake Anna, etc.

Undecided on I/O vs outboard. I love the BBC sound, and have a whipple blower/EFI setup on the shelf in my basement. But, I'm very tempted by the ease of use/maint/winterizing and better MPG of the outboard- plus the increased cockpit space of such a small boat.

If draft is as much of an issue as it appears to be, I'd suggest something with an outboard instead of an I/O. Lighter weight = shallower draft. And it ain't half bad for speed either. I get 76 MPH (GPS) out of my 22' Progression with a mildly modified 200. Finding one in your price range might be problematic though.

If depth is that big of a deal, how about a jetboat?

LOVE that Tantrum, but that 600SC will be in need of a refresh soon, won't it? I wonder what that would cost if someone had to pay to have it removed, refreshed, and reinstalled by a reputable shop?

Only part I don't have is the port-potti. :drink: Depending on which outboard you go with the BBC can be just as fuel efficient. The 225/250 3.0 liter Merc EFI's are gas hogs. My 550+ Big Block gets over 2 mpg (usually around 2.5) and that's cruising at 45 mph.

For rough water, you won't find a better boat than the Pantera. Total weight is less than 6k, ready to boat ride.
