No Chat ability

No Chat ability
At home I am able to access the chat room. It comes up with a download window. Not sure what it says. I just click ok.
On the laptop, which I am on now, does not open this download program and when it open the chat window it is a white window.
What can i do to get this to work.
I have never been able to get it to work on the laptop.
And would like it to

My laptop hooks up to the interent through the company server which has a firewall. You cant get into the chatroom through a firewall. If you load AOL or something else and access the internet through that you should be able to get in. A firewall prevents chatroom access.
