viper1996 very nice boat! I have always liked those skaters and the easy maintainance of the outboards compared to sterndrives.

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...08RearView.jpg BTW, I've always had a soft spot for 24' Skaters - ever since my first 115 MPH ride in one. |

This is Dan who had the Slingshot when Warren had his, and then the Gladiator. Skater's lookin good! |
I always enjoyed the little boats.
12 ft 10" 75 hp 4 cylinder. Eventually learned to build them lighter and stronger and cut back to a 3 cylinder 75 and up. Loved every bit of it but sold off everything to invest in camera equipment... http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...1014669978.jpg http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...p956923709.jpg http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...p931131247.jpg One of the coolest shots taken in Fall River Mass: http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...p734886089.jpg |

I keep my 20 Cigarette around for fun on smooth, glass-like conditions.
It's a blast, but far from an "offshore boat" like some others mistakenly call their 20-25ft boats. It's purely a little speedboat built for fun in calm conditions, and it's great! http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3845/img0774en.jpg |

I'm definitely a little boat guy. Ya know Don Aronow would loveus. He raced and developed alot of small single engine boats.
|
Ok so my little tunnel obviously isn't an offshore boat. I was just having fun.
My other boat is a 23 Fountain center console (25'8" LOA with the beak) and although it isn't particularly fast, it does goes much further offshore on a regular basis than any "offshore" boats I know of. We typically run from 30-65 miles out on a typical day. For a smaller boat, she runs pretty good in snotty water. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...unningshot.jpg |

These days a 30 footer is considered to be "little" depending on which side of the fence your standing on!!! Al

Not taking anything away from the larger offshore boats, because they are amazing. But, small boats had their place. Here is the article on our boat (it was the test boat for the Boating News article in 1966 and my dad bought it right afterwords). They sure thought these boats were the start of something great.
