All Boats Gone...bad Day.

Today i awoke to my neighbor banging on my door, saying i think the garage up the street where u keep your boat is on fire, so i fly up there and sure enough it is. There in a garage me and 4 guys rent. I had 2 boats, mustang and my friends had checkmate, restored chriscraft, boston whaler, 2 jetskied and countless out vehicals...all a total loss. Most not insured. Story mad all new tv station, and was 3 alarm fire with 6 different town fighting the fire. This is someting you think will never happen to you. A 5th wheel camper that was parked next to building caught fire for what ever reason and lit the building, it was all gone in mins. here are pics:

my baja has insurance, my 271 i just got 30 days ago and i needed a survey with in 30 days and i havent been able too because we have gotten like 4 feet of snow in the last month and it may have ran out YESTERDAY, my mustang has antique plates and has very minimal insurance, most of other boat arnt covered. we were told that owner of building had insurance, but when something happen like this things chang real fast...

I just wanted to show pics, dont really want this to turn into a lecture on why didnt you have insurance, trust me not many people have a bad day like i did lossing 80k in stuff. 30k for each boat and 20k for mustang.

It all just really sucks.....

ballon78 02-06-2011 09:05 PM

bustedbrick 02-06-2011 09:50 PM

That is unbelievably sad to see. Hope things work out for the best and you are able to recover some funds. The mustang had history, I'm sure that the most gutwrenching. Randy

NJgr8ful 02-06-2011 09:54 PM

The boats and your pops Mustang ... that royally SUCKS!

So sorry Josh :( :( :(

Comanche3Six 02-06-2011 09:57 PM

Absolutely Unbelievable, that is a terrible situation & i hope the bldgs insurance comes through for you.

Mr. Demeanor 02-06-2011 10:31 PM

You need to find out who the owner of the RV that caught fire is and if he has insurance.

I was the victim of an arson that took my boat and truck 5 years ago. The kid was caught but nothing happened. I feel your pain.

Yup, he has liability in this, go get em!

With the history in the Mustang it may be fixable. It would be a lot of work but I believe it can be done.

Wozencraft 02-06-2011 11:23 PM

That is absolutely horrible! Not to make things worse for you, but I'm going to use your story for my other clients who often tell me, "naw, I don't need insurance on it, I have it stored and I NEVER have claims!"

What's interesting, which you most likely already know, is that homeowners insurance does not automatically cover these items while stored in your garage (whether your primary residence or a rental). I find many people think the home insurance would cover it.

Again, very sorry for your loss. I recommend you keep these photos with you when you go to purchase new items. The salesperson MUST feel deeply sorry for you and slash the prices!!!

Good luck...

Devin

Sorry to hear about that.

I had a house fire 10 years ago, luckily everything was insured, and they could see it.

Since then I really review my policy's.

P.S. Word of advice, unplug your toaster over when not in use! I meet someone with the same model of Black & Decker, wrecked thier house as well, and killed their pride & joy dog.

mustangmark 02-07-2011 12:17 AM

I'm terribly sorry to read about this! Those pictures made me feel sick to my stomach while I was looking at them so I cant begin to imagine how you and your friends are feeling at this point. I sincerely wish you the best! Mark

BONDO10 02-07-2011 06:44 AM

That is horrible. Do your self a favor and hire an independent insurance negotiator. They know how to retrieve the most. So sorry, good luck.

BUIZILLA 02-07-2011 06:46 AM

Josh.... ask the owner of the RV if it had a Norcold refrigerator... if it does/did and the model falls into the current recall fiasco, have the Fire Dept investigate that angle... I can't tell you how many RV's have burned up due to those, I pray every day I see my coach that it hasn't burned to the ground yet.. I'm dead serious here

edit > just google RV refrigerator fires or Norcold fires

pages and pages of info

my brother just told me his 43' tag axle Newmar coach almost went up last weekend, but he smelled ammonia and unplugged it in time, close call..

don't let Norcold give you any crap about serial number issues, or out of date, if it was built before 2008 it's highly suspect..

good luck, Jim

LaughingCat 02-07-2011 07:36 AM

Speechless. So sorry about your loss. I hope the insurance angle works out for you. At least you have the memories with the items and no one was injured.

Very sorry for your loss. I can relate.
What I will say is to all, review your insurance and make sure
you have replacement cost coverage. You don't want to learn
the way I did.

SpeedGirl 02-07-2011 09:26 AM
