Go Pro Owners
Not sure if anyone has seen the latest from gopro. I just put an order in today. Awesome add on.:coolcowboy:

Ordered mine last week. Should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. Can't wait. This is the only thing this product is missing.

Sweet! I know there have been many times my footage in the race car was less than perfect because the camera was poorly positioned and didn't realize it until after the fact. This would be a worthwhile option!
Please let me know how it works for you guys... if it's a decent add-on, it's money well spent. Also let me know what it does to battery life as well. |
ordered!

I had heard that a screen was going to be available. Cool that is it finally here.:party-smiley-048::party-smiley-048:

I am ordering mine next week. This is an awesome camera.

Received mine a couple days ago. It's a cool add on. I'm just a little curious about the weight factor. It has made the gopro quite a heavy piece.

Tried to order one earlier this week, and was told that they would not be released until mid-March. ??????

Hows the screen in direct sunlight? I think Id probably end up using it just for positioning then pull the back off. Im having issues with vibration and movement now forcing me to stabilize shots after the fact and that tends to soften the picture. I feel more weight would make this problem even worse. Uncle Dave |

Does it still balance okay? How is the battery life with it?
Battery life was just about cut in half with the screen running. I changed the setting for the nest go around. Now it should only be on for 60 seconds after power up. Didn't get a chance to run it long enough to see what the results were in that setting. We were hunting in the late morning. Sunlight was fairly bright. I could make out the horizon on the screen but that was about it. That gave me enough of a reference point to tell me what I needed to know. I'm sure had I covered the screen up a little with my hands it would have been easier to view. Buck |

If I had to do it over again, I probably would have went with a different product. The screen has added enough weight to where I'd begin to question it's stability in the same situations. The screen has decreased the battery life substantially and is quite difficult to simply shut off (you have to go through the setting menu.) It'd be better if there was a way to shut the screen off while in shoot, like a double click, to save battery life.
As for stability and weight. I had it attached to a rack on the top of a suburban going through mesquite trees and 4' high brush. We were bouncing around chasing hogs at speeds up to 30-35 mph. The video turned out great. Buck |

Did you try the 60 second setting for the screen? That seems to work fine for me.

The video turned out great. Buck When mounting to a relatively stable secure surface like a body panel on a car or on my boat I have no issues. Its when I can only mount on something that moves around- like a fender on a quad I have issues. More weight would make the issues worse. I like the 60 second mode (well I like the idea I've never used it) That way I can frame up what I need and then it will just conserve battery life. UD |

Its just the pictures RHR. The camera is about the size of the palm of your hand. Maybe 2 and a half inches thick.

I haven't seen one. I think you'll have to buy extras if you need more juice while out recording. Batteries are only about $20 so cost isn't a big deal.

you guys know they just released a battery back pack too...i'm getting that cause i'm sick of getting half way through a day of boarding and having a dead gopro when there are still epic runs left to shoot!

Thats interesting...... That'd be cool. After a month of owning my gopro I went online and bought a 32g class 4 SD card. Im consistently able to get 2.5 hours-3hours before the battery dies and I still have 8-10gigs left. Anyone know how much bigger the new battery is?

What resolution setting are you using for 2.5 hours? Also, seems to take forever to upload vids to youtube. |

it uses the same size battery as the one the comes with the go pro just lets you use 2 of them. And you can use it has a charger if you want to use the camera and charge a second battery at the same time. check out GoPro.com
Total set up: $350 for the camera (shipped and taxed) $65 for battery back (shipped and taxed) $117 for LCD screen (shipped and taxed) $140 for 64g Class 4 SD card (shipped and taxed) http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Secure.../dp/B003FVG3PC $670 total for a freakin camera. Sorry to say this, though the camera takes good video....... the company is a complete rip off. I would advise ANYONE and EVERYONE to stay away from this brand. For Christ sake, they charge you for fog inserts because you couldn't use the camera for more than 10 minutes without the thing clouding up. They make you buy every little thing seperatley. Dollar for dollar, I'd say this is the worste valued camera on the market. And despite all this crap, I have to hand over another $20 so my $625 camera can operate without fogging up. Proof. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0KGRLitjZc |

Rethinking this idea. Whats the point in paying $50 for a battery and charger? The charging is no different than if you were to plug in your computer. Its actually a complete waste unless you want it on for over 7.5 hours. That would take almost 66gigs on 1080p. Allow me to explain. 1 battery - 2.5 hours. Start off with two batteries and the charger. Use 1 battery up (2.5hours, 22.14gigs), use the 2nd battery while first is charging (5hours, 44.28 gigs), use the recharged battery (7.5 hours, 66.42gigs). Why not just spend $20 and get another battery?

Proof. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0KGRLitjZc I've had no problem with my camera fogging up. I use it snowboarding all winter and go from cold, into a nice warm bar, then back out and the case hasnt fogged up on me once! I spent the $50 on the battery backpack, which includes a second batter, 2 new rear doors for the case and a USB cable. When you spend the day outside and its 10 to 20 degrees the one battery only lasts for about half the day...i usually run out of battery before i fill an 8gig card. Its not the flaw of the company, its the fact that a battery just wont hold a charge long in that kind of temperatures! I really think everything is pretty reasonably priced and you get plenty of mounts and accessories when you buy the camera, the other accessories should be seperate. There are some of them that i'd never use and would be a waste of money. I reccomend anyone to buy this camera, its easy to use, shoots awesome video and i think its reasonbly priced! here's an example of what i've shot this winter this was on a cloudy day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cndULOV6o00 |

any other mp4 movie editors out there? i have a vid that is just a tad too big for youtube that i want to edit or split into two parts. i also race hare scrambles (1.5-2 hour long dirtbike race in the woods) and that footage would have to be split up.
check out some of my vids on youtube. search panicrev613 :coolcowboy: |

check out some of my vids on youtube. search panicrev613 :coolcowboy: Without image stabilization per scene long races are considerably less watchable. all the glamor footage has been stabilised. The video editing "world kind" of lays out like this. 6. a bunch more of weird stuff that no one uses.....(matrox, little tiny apps, free stuff etc) 5. Then you have hybrid weird stuff like the Sony Vegas 4. The adobe stuff is the low end of the "good" but you need to buy all the suites if you really want to design cool things 3. Apples "pro" stuff has great flexibility but is slow, (same applies to their suites) ( I-movie is very easy to use.) Apple stuff mixed with adobes is very powerful but you have to move stuff around which is tedious & the processing is dog slow. The in the big boy world you move to ---- 2. Avid- with hardware accelerated stuff and the very powerful DS systems 1. Autodesk- This is the "skater" of the editing world. Autodesk Smoke advanced running on Linux- nothing is is faster more capable <or more expensive> This is 60K - 129K for the license only and standard hardware for this package will run around 50K A regular guy that does has to process high res media for a living that needs real throuput and pro capabilities on a budget can go with smoke on the mac http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDjyG...3CA12759A9AC30 This license is 15K run it on your mac with some dedicated cards Uncle Dave |

So it looks like this new Go Pro I heard about is really an add on screen? It sounds like some don't like it. What other cameras work well?
|
I sure there are better cameras our there. But for the price and ease of use, you cant beat teh GoPro. Used it skiing in February,Cape Coral Poker run two weeks ago, boating yesterday. And when the water warms up. it'll be underwater with my kids or scuba diving (case is good for up to 180 feet).
It shoots full 1080 HD, time lapse and triple shot or timer. With the latest software upgrade, you can do 1-frame/second time lapse. Tried it yesterday and works awesome. Some may complain about the price when you add all the toys and gadgets, but that's the price you pay for the cool stuff. I downloaded Cyberlink Director 9 for editing. It seems like it will be easy once I take some tutorials. It can do anything. I just ordered a new, top of the line, Sony Vaio to run it as my business laptop is not powerful enough. I think I've found a new hobby. |
